Jamaica Environment Trust will be hosting a workshop on sea turtle monitoring as a follow up to the workshop held last year July with a focus on training the residents of Treasure Beach to use sea turtle monitoring sheets. Date: April 30th, 2011 at 1pm at the Treasure Beach Women's Centre. Refreshments will be provided. Please call Tamoy 869-8318 (cell) or 960-3693 (w) to confirm your attendance by Wednesday April 27th, 2011.
A couple times in the early seventy's I strayed around to Olde Warf(all trees and sand banks then)with the hope that I would see a turtle on the sand to nest that would provide with good eating meat. I heard turtles have seven different types of meat.Innocent to endangered species and wild life protection then, all I wanted was a feast.A parent told me of their nesting season, to look for tracks in the sand and the art of turning them on their backs to control them as they were very powerful otherwise. The closest I ever came was to see the largest shell I ever saw displayed on a premises between Billy's Bay and Fort Charles. I hope the residence found the workshop useful and will be able to better help to preserve and appreciate our wildlife.
Can anyone say how the workshop went and was the turnout as strong as the first one?
This workshop was more targeted on training anyone interested in monitoring the sea turtles activities and not a general meeting as the last workshop was. With that in mind the workshop was well attended and it looks like they may have found some additional folks willing to do the monitoring. So all in all, very successful.
That is fantastic news
