The community spirit is alive and well in Treasure Beach, Jamaica,
with members coming together to stage the Treasure Beach Bread Basket
Festival, May 27, 28 and 29, 2011, offering a smorgasbord of cultural,
sporting, culinary, music, literary and visual art events at various locations.

The Treasure Beach Bread Basket Festival will build on the wonderful
vibe created by the Calabash International Literary Festival that ran
from 2001-2010 and had become a national and international calendar
event and an essential part of the economy of the Treasure Beach
community.

The Treasure Beach Bread Basket Festival will open on Friday evening
(May 27) with Taino Cove hosting Culture Night, beginning at 6 p.m.
with performances by a range of story tellers, drummers, and
traditional performers including acts from Treasure Beach, St. Thomas,
Westmoreland, Maroon Town.

The Elizabethan Reggae show happens at Southview Hotel later that
night (Friday, May 27) at 9 p.m.

Literary connoisseurs will have their appetites sated at the Talking
Trees Fiesta from 9 a.m ­ 5 p.m. on Saturday (May 28) on the grouunds
of Two Seasons Guest House, featuring award winning Nigerian short
story writer with Jamaican roots, Igoni Barrett, established and new
local writers, panel discussion, and a children's village.
Bookophilia is our book vendor partner.

Sports fans will be treated to a cricket match on Saturday morning
(May 28), which bowls off at 10 a.m. at the newly established Treasure
Beach Sports Park, followed by football in the afternoon at 2 p.m. A
children's play area will be provided at the Sports Park.

Classically trained vocalist, Sharon Martini, accompanied by Denny
Davis, in association with the Treasure Beach Women's Group (TBWG)
presents an "Evening of Song" - ­ a classical recittal, at
Frenchman's Reef Restaurant and Bar, beginning at 7 p.m. on Saturday
(May 28).

Calabashment happens on stage at Jack Sprat on Saturday (May 28), from
9 p.m. featuring a top Reggae act.

Activities on Sunday (May 29) include the Bread Basket Brunch at Sunset Resort and
Villas, at 9 a.m and a Fashion and Art show at Calabash House,
beginning at 12 noon, introducing the new line, Masii, by Jackie Cohen
of Mutamba, and current works by Elizabeth Eyre Seltzer designs. Work
of several Jamaican artists, including some from Treasure Beach, will
be exhibited.

For those wishing to make it a day trip to Treasure Beach, Jamaica
Cultural Enterprises which specializes in cultural tours, is offering
return transportation between Kingston and Treasure Beach, Ocho Rios
and Treasure Beach, and Montego Bay and Treasure Beach. You may learn
some interesting information about key spots along the way.

Throughout the Festival, fruit and food vendors, and the many
restaurants and bars will ensure that you are well fed and watered
over the weekend.

The South Coast Chapter of the Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association
is lending its support to the Festival. Independent Radio Company,
through its radio stations Power 106 and Music 99FM are on board as
media sponsors and Power Giggs is our Internet provider.
