Correct me if i am wrong, please! but, why is it that Treasure Beach Hotel doesn't host anything or hardly if at all sponsors anything in the community?
As far as i can also remember you can count on one hand the amount of people from Treasure Beach that is employed there.
WHY?

Treasure Beach citizen, I never thought of this before but I am grateful you brought it up because I think you are right. Treasure Beach Hotel is a landmark but appears to give little back to the community. We see Sunset, Jakes, Taino Cove and other hotels all doing things. Even the many of the guest houses and villas do things to support the community. I would like to hear directly from a representative of the hotel to answer your question.

This is absurd. "Appears to give little back"...Did you ever think that maybe they give back without all the hooppla that says "Look at me and look what I have done?" All the other entities mentioned do that. Seems if they do anything for the community they make sure that everyone knows. I have seen the owner of this hotel personally give back, and then just move on with his day. [edited by TB.Net]

Right on! Do not forget places like the Two Seasons Guest House. Do not forget the villas and people who kindly offer what they have to raise money for the scholarship children. These include Doubloon, Shakti, Rainbow Point and Rainbow Tree -- also Dennis Abrahams, Bebe Sutherland, Floyd, Joshua Stein, Aman Parchment, Treasure Tours, Richard Parchment, Veron Smith and Marblu and more I can't remember right now. Where is Treasure Beach Hotel when it comes to giving and helping? [edited by TB.Net]

Maybe they don't feel the need or desire.

Alot of people also confuse community involvement or events as something a business does to benefit the community. Very often these events are actually being hosted to drive in more business to the guesthouse, villa hotel etc.
Sometimes it is a tool to get their name out there and host something that will bring in customers. Nothing wrong with any of the approaches they are all ways to an end.

As for not hiring locals from the community, ask any local business owner how difficult it is to hire a reliable and dependable person from a population that has an ingrained culture of independance and self-employment in the fishing industry. Most will tell you there is a serious lack of reliable and dependable employees and this is one of the greatest challenges in running a business in the area.

Many person and/or businesses give to the community, very few of which get mentioned on this board. We cannot and should not judge any person or establishment for what they do or don't do as we most likely know nothing about it.

As I always say, don't watch what your neighbor is doing but ask what am I doing. For the persons who are asking what The TB Hotel is doing for the community, I would like to turn the question around and ask you what you have done for the community lately. You most certainly don't have to answer this question on this board as it is no one else's business. Just as the TB Hotel doesn't have to answer on this board as it is no one else's business.

Rebecca you are right about people asking what THEY can do as opposed to what others can do. There is always something WE can do. I am gratified some people know the owners of the TB Hotel are making contributions to the local economy even if most of us don't know about it. A lot of people would prefer to have what they do stay quiet. If that's the way TB Hotel chooses to operate then I think that's fine. I only wanted to know they are doing SOMETHING.

The Treasure Beach Hotel has been owned by Dr John Brown, who has run a Medical Clinic at 48 Main Street in Black River for years. Those who might be questioning how the doctor spends any proceeds from his hotel coffers might also wish to snoop into his practice and ask how many patients he has treated pro bono or for a pittance.
He also owns farm lands which supply the hotel with produce while employing parish residents. Others may have their own private stories of benevolence.

Treasure beach citizen may also want to ask Christine Marrett of 2 Seasons Guest House if the TB Hotel was not a sponsor of the Treasure Beach Jazz Escape or the organizers of an early Calabash Fest if the TB Hotel did not shelter the audience when torrential rains washed out Jakes.

We used to wonder why Dr Brown never fixed up the Victorian residence which served as his office with need of painting and decorative ginger bread repair. The joke was that he could tell his patients that he wasn't living as a rich man and would need some payment to survive.

Rebecca is so right when she says "don't watch what your neighbor is doing but ask what am I doing"...not everyone performs their dance in the open air!

Treasure Beach Citizen

You must have at least 10 fingers on each hand to count the staff that are visible when you go to the Hotel.. then there are the behind the scenes people.

When was the last time you were there?

Next time you go, why don`t you ask personally, instead of posting such derogratory statements publicly.

PS.. They make the BEST ackee pizza!!

Treasure Beach Hotel does support the staging of Treasure Beach Jazz Escape at Two Seasons Guest House, for which we are very grateful.

In all fairness, Sunset Resort has never asked Treasure Beach Hotel to sponsor something, and been turned down, they have always come on board and been more than generous and they have been nothing but very courteous, when exchanging information or helping in the event of an overbooking. We find them very nice to work with. How they want to run their buisness is just that their buisness, after all they have been at it for much longer than almost all of us !
Thanks,

I love stopping by the TB Hotel even if I am not staying there for one reason or another. (None of which have anything to do with them). Daphne and Lorna who have worked there for YEARS are so fun and warm. They make you feel welcomed and also missed! They are so reliable and I look forward to seeing them upon each visit. Do they live in TB? No. I think it is a case of the Hotel finding the BEST people for the job, not just the best people who live in TB..And for that I am grateful
