The community spirit is alive and well in Treasure Beach, Jamaica, with members coming together to stage the Treasure Beach Bread Basket Festival, May 27, 28 and 29, 2011, offering a smorgasbord of cultural, sporting, music, literary and visual art events at various locations. The Treasure Beach Bread Basket Festival will build on the wonderful vibe created by the Calabash International Literary Festival that ran from 2001-2010 and had become a national and international calendar event and an essential part of the economy of the Treasure Beach community.

The Treasure Beach Bread Basket Festival will open on Friday evening (May 27) with Taino Cove hosting Culture Night, beginning at 6 p.m.

The Elizabethan Reggae show happens at Southview Hotel later that night (Friday, May 27) at 9 p.m.

Literary connoisseurs will have their appetites sated at the Talking Trees Fiesta from 9 a.m - 6 p.m. on Saturday (May 28) on the grounds of Two Seasons Guest House.

Sports fans will be treated to a cricket match on Saturday morning (May 28), which bowls off at 9 a.m. at the newly established Treasure Beach Sports Park, followed by football in the afternoon at 2 p.m. A children’s play area will be provided at the Sports Park.

Calabashment happens on stage at Jack Sprat from 9 p.m.

Activities on Sunday (May 29) include a brunch at Sunset Resort and Villas, beach football at Great Bay and an art show at Calabash House.

Throughout the Festival, fruit and food vendors, and the several restaurants and bars will ensure that you are well fed and watered over the weekend.

Plans for the Treasure Beach Bread Basket Festival are still evolving and you are invited to share your ideas with us. If you would like to be a sponsor of the Festival, do let us know.

The South Coast Chapter of the Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association is lending its support to the Festival. Independent Radio Company, through its radio stations Power 106 and Music 99FM are on board as media sponsors.

This seems to be a nice substitute for Calabash. May I ask where the Southview Hotel is.
