Are they referring to the weather? Or are they talking about places to visit? I just want to be clear on what they talking about.

One of the coolest places I have been. That is saying a little. Been all over USA and quite a bit of Europe. Only spent a day in Ocho Rios, but thoroughly enjoyed it. Would love to come to your part of the country, maybe even retire there. How much does it cost to build there? Been looking at land but have no idea about the cost of building. Just a simple, small, on story house with a couple of bedrooms will be more than enough.

I think I would look at what is for sale before I build, the frustrations of building could be chalanging there, there is houses on hill, with ocean view, at very reasonable prices, or on the beach, all along the coast, AND THEY SOON WILL GOING UP, AS THE ECCONOMY GETS BETTER, Jamaica is a peaceful place to retire, I will be doing the same in a couple of years.

I have looked at some of the available real estate, but Do not know enough about the particular areas to make a decision right now. Actually I have been looking at land more inland, and would be able to do some of the work myself , if that is allowed. I have lots of experience with the building trades, concrete, block, etc. I would really like to get some kind of idea about cost/sqft estimates. I do not know anything about prices of building materials there and what might be available. small, simple efficient is what suits my needs. Thanks for the reply.

To greg

It is expensive to build in jamaica, although if you can do a lot of the work yourself that would help reduce the cost. suggest you do your homework before you start construction or might end up like many, with only a half built house.

G Wright, of curse it is allowed, if you have the money and the time. I know of a few people living there now, retired, becuse the cost of living is les than in USA, for them that is, you just need to spend some time there and get familiar with things, and talk to locals

Know the land before you buy. Make sure it's not a gully course that will cause flooding when it rains heavily!

Thanks everyone, I am a few years from retirement , but since I came there on a cruise last year, I have realy been interested in getting all the information I can on Jamaica. Really enjoyed my visit. The south shore sounds like it would suit me better, after all I am a southerner here in the USA. Slower pace, laid back people, etc.
