Overheard some days ago in Treasure Beach:

a conversation between two older residents and a younger one, that they all agreed that they missed the not too distant days when treasure beach was unhurried, everyone seemed to have time and respect for each other and there were no hustlers, no real estate signs, and the community seemed safe and intact. The word "toxic" was used, which I thought an odd word to describe Treasure beach, but in retrospect I realize it was apt, as to them it is now toxic compared to how it was.

If only the people who feel like this would talk up instead of allowing certain changes to take place, which do affect the pace of life - what a different (and to me, nicer) life would be in Treasure Beach.

It already feels so different than a year ago.
Imagine a year from now, then two, then ten.

Made me wonder if I would want to be here, and my answer comes by already looking to live elsewhere.
My proactive choice.

30 years is a long time to be listening to pessimism, no mater where you live.

my dream might have faded but it is along with many others who are too timid to talk about what they see happening.
The "standard of living has improved" is a topic i could debate on for some time, as often places progress but lifestyles digress as people need more and more to live "satisfied". In fact it has been proven over time they were more satisfied with less!

When I overheard the conversation it made me realize the things that are being lost in Treasure beach, and included in that is a loss of community. People do not seem to talk anymore, they argue.

Sad - in my estimation.

Do not be swayed by one conversation you overheard
you have to reach a state of belonging .
Debate and arguing have their time ,but there is a sense of community In Treasure beach like no other
People welcome you without knowing who you are and share with you
The words for treasure beach are peaceful and tranquil..
It is the place where the Gods like to be

The words (in my estimation) for Treasure Beach WERE peaceful and tranquil. It is no longer so for many as I note fences and gates being made stronger and taller, people spending less time just talking with each other AND enjoying this place.
(maybe in comparing it to other parts of Jamaica it might seem so, but it has changed, and so much has already been lost in the past 2/3 years in the name of "progress")

It is not only that one conversation that prompted my discussion
But for both young and old to agree on the word "toxic" was a strong realization for what is happening, and how much is at stake to keep Treasure Beach "peaceful and tranquil".

Take a look at all the signage now around .. those in itself denote some of the change and what is to come.

I am all for "progress" done with consideration to all residents.
Would you agree that is happening in TB?

What are the toxins that we should be concerned with? Any cleanup has to identify the polluting substances so the appropriate measures may be applied.

Remember; if the inner toxins are not dealt with, the external ones will keep emerging.

We do not like or use words like progress or Toxic to describe treasure beach,We use community development we evolve into what we do best.
" Proactive" you need to go to Sherly and get a bath to remove your toxins ,then go sleep on the beach that night you will wake up with a new dream in the morning
you will no longer have sad estimation or toxic ideas of treasure beach
you will see us as we are ..... Tolerant, accommodating, entertaining, Loving, I could go on.......blessed ?

To Paul
Not long ago I would have felt safe to sleep on the beach however not these days as between noise and fear i would not sleep.
Tolerance has waned as progress has accelerated,
drivers almost run you off the road if you happen to be walking trying to talk with local people as they hustle now for fares,
loud is also becoming the norm.
and loving?
well hate to say it but there is less "loving" and "caring" for each other there these days too.

be thankful you have not noticed the changes but many have.

and just to let you know,
i am not full of toxins .. nor am i the toxin,
just simply someone aware of what is happening
and concerned for the future of this special place

There you go.
The first toxin you have to remove is fear
In Treasure beach there is noting to fear except fear it self
Noise I can only think of two Wild onion and the church they are not too overbearing but will soon learn it is not the noise they make that attract people but the kind of services that they have to offer

There will be changes noting you can see stays the same forever I am always happy to be in Treasure beach, It has a natural mystic
It is said that the happiest people of the world are in the Caribbean ,Jamaica was voted the best Caribbean destination 2010,
If you are in Jamaica where would you rather be?

Who is free of toxic thoughts and emotions? Such a being would be approaching sainthood.

Which of us do not poison the air, earth and water? Take a drive or flight or add your excretions to the aquifer. Even some medications we take for health affect life forms that now swim in a dilute toxic brew in many places.

If the effects of our actions are not understood either throught "Cyan Badda" or simple ignorance by not having the info, our lovely Plain, Bluff, beaches and springs will reflect our behavior. Either dry and lifeless or lush and shining.

It's either Miami Beach or Eden.
