Hi my dad passed away about 5 years ago and he used to live in Malvern. his house is now standing empty a part from a live in gardener on site. As we live in the USA and Uk we cannot get out to maintain the house and from what we hear it is deteriorating and anything of worth has been stolen. how do we go about selling the house and land from a distance before it becomes worthless? any advice will be gratefully appreciated many thanks

If you skip a realtor you will save $$ on the sale.
You do need to use an attorney for the transfer.
You can also call a Realator that is familiar with the area. Coldwell Banker has an agent in St. Elizabeth. Sandy Tatham.

Why you don't go hoem before you decide to do anything. You think you can live America forever.
Hi From Yard
maybe they can't go home or hoem because of other committments. Maybe like many others that have migrated they don't feel like Jamaica is a place they want to retire to.
Also if you've ever had property in Jamaica and left it in the care of family it is sad to see what can happen even with the ones you love and thought you could trust looking after it.
Read the post, the place has been stripped of value and rotting down. Anyone with property in this condition best sell asap before it truly becomes a condemned building. Look at all the nice little resorts on the north coast that didn't get a swift sale. If they stay like that another year buyer will need a bulldozer to clean up the land and start over things crumble quick without proper care.
If you can't come to look at the property, have someone photograph it and make an assessment of what is wrong and what it would cost to keep it up. This is your family home and I am sure your dad had hoped that one day his children would return. If you sell it, it will be lost to you forever, and so would your roots.
Try to keep it, get a good caretaker and rent the property while you are away and use the rents to keep the place up. One day you will regret having let it go.

HI Anthony,
I lived in Malvern for four years while going to school.I then went back and worked at the Teachers College for a while. Could you give a precise location where that house is located and the name of your parents.
Some parts of Malvern have nice view of the ocean even though it is miles away and that is what I would be looking for.
I do know the area quite well. Please post it here for me then if it sounds like something I would seriously like to consider I will do another posting with my email address.
Hi Anthony,
I am Stephen Johnson and I share law offices with Clare Miller in Malvern. I would be happy to act on your behalf should you wish to sell the property in Malvern. Please advise whether your father died leaving a will or if he died intestate and whether he possessed a land title for the property as his estate would have to be probated before a sale could take place. You would also need to have the property valued. If you wish to discuss the matter further please feel free to contact me at 876 862 8087.
