Thanks to the Greater Treasure Beach Citizens Association for the new "Welcome to Treasure Beach" monument greeting all of us as we enter into this wonderful community.

welcome

If you recall, BREDS, The Treasure Beach Citizens Alert Group, and The Treasure Beach Women's Group working together as The Greater TB Citizens Association entered a national competition for Best Community and Better Environment for Social Transformation in the parish.

The results were Treasure Beach winning the following:

Best Community in St. Elizabeth

Most beautiful community in St. Elizabeth

and shared with Newcombe Valley Best kept community facilities.

Some of the funds received were used for the erection of this welcome monument. Further plans include using the cash reward for The Ambulance Fund, cleaning up the beaches, community bulletin boards, and more.

Thanks to the Greater TB Citizens Association!

What is Treasure GYAL? Does that mean Gal? The award mention money to clean up the beaches. I think people won't say how much this is but when will it start and how will it be use?

Please someone explain the meaning of this word.
If it was meant to be Gal why not Girl instead. Just sound so much better.

In my humble opinion, "gyal" is the frequently used and widely accepted patois pronunciation and spelling of the word girl, or gal. If you spend much time in Jamaica you will undoubtably hear it spoken by local people island-wide.

Gyal or Ghal patois for girl and as we all know a boat is always refer to as a female.

The brightly coloured canoe is picturesque and welcoming. However, I wondered if there is a hole in the bottom to let out water that may accumulate when it rains, to avoid providing a breeding ground for mosquitos (or is the plural mosquitoes - or I could just say in good old Jamaican - "mosquito dem")

Merry Christmas all

It seems that the ambulance is for the use and advertisement benefiting Jakes, a private business, so why is community prize money being used to maintain it?.
Couldn't it be better used to benefit the entire community in some other meaningful way?
It seems that the ambulance is not available for the benefit and use of the entire community.
Not wanting to stir up trouble but think the prize money should be used well

The ambulance is for the use of the whole community not just Jakes. That is why the money is being used for this very very good cause. It is extremely expense to insure and upkeep the ambulance. All the ambulance volunteers were just retrained in First Aid and CPR.

This is a very worthy cause and benefits the whole community and more.

When I say and more, one of the volunteer ambulance drivers was just retrained a few weeks ago. The day after he completed his training he was traveling on the road and came upon a serious accident near Font Hill. He stopped and was able to assist several persons but especially a critically injured person who had two broken legs. She would not let anyone else near her but when our trained volunteer came to her and followed protocol she responded to him and allowed him to help her and get her to the hospital.

In my opinion the ambulance program has far reaching affects and should be given the support it deserves.

'Gyal' can be considered rude or offensive. 'Girl' is most appropriate.

I hate when wrong assumptions are made.
Thanks for providing that useful information on the ambulance service, Rebecca.

Hello Rebecca, as one with elderly relatives in TB, I'm curious to know what is the range of coverage for the ambulance, and how does one donate money to the service. Many thanks.

Merry Christmas to everyone.

The ambulance is there to accommodate everyone and anyone.
Therefore everyone should try to help in every way to keep it maintained properly so it can be of service when needed.

Make sure to check them out to see what's happening in and around the community!
