FACT vs FICTION

Few subjects have caused as much consternation, in this medium, as the subject of the Sports Park, and if humbly the issue might be summarized, much of the the concerns were not over the absolute mandate for a sports & development arena for our youth, as much about the Scale, Humbug, Transport Access, potentially disrupting Events descending on TB village in great swoops onto one of the most tranquil idyllic spots here-abouts.

Now that Phase 1 of the Breds Foundation Sports Center has been inaugurated and smatterings of the VISION are glimpsed and unfolding, how are the dissenters of the Project feeling about what is on target to become Phase 2 through 4?

It goes to show that public opinion is vital in adaptation of any design programme that appears to be delivered in a box.
(Including a template from a successful model in Britain)

The community speaks up and we hear of a sports park now that
will hybrid into a sanctuary for weddings and funerals and retreats and perhaps a marketplace of goods & ideas (the agora).

Excerpted from the Gleaner

... the entire community came out to witness the opening of the Breds Treasure Beach Sports Park. A stellar cast of politicians, sports officials and corporate giants were on hand for the event that lasted the entire day.

And, speaker after speaker at the opening lauded Henzell and the community for the efforts so far. The kudos began with Prime Minister Bruce Golding, who saw it as a tribute to Henzell's leadership, vision and inspiration for the community. He said it was good that the vision of the late Desmond Henry would be recognised and honoured.

"My idea is to see it as a place where referees and coaches in the parish can come to be upgraded; where we can invite school teams, clubs and semi-professional teams from overseas to come and train here," Henzell noted.

But, more important, he wants a place where the entire family can come for picnics, where corporate functions can be held, weddings can be performed, funerals, workshops and retreats can be held.

A Question Going Forward:
The original PLANS for the Sports Park showed a rather large water feature or pond.
Was that as the result of filling a natural swale or depression, in a wetland, that would "naturally" fill under flooding conditions?

Would someone from Breds Foundation or a cognoscenti inform us if current advanced monitoring of the Park and potential flooding during Nicole has affected the layouts of the sport's fields and the water element.
Further, was the Pond intended to be an old fashioned "swimming hole"?
