Could someone shed some light on whether or not holders of US Passports are granted visas beyond 6 weeks to vacation in Jamaica. Much appreciation.
US citizens are allowed up to six months stays. Upon arrival, you are given a 90 day stamp, before this time is up, go to MoBay or Kingston for an extension at the cost of 10,000 JMD which for now is $120.00 US.
Any decision is up to the immigration officer you talk to when entering the country. While s/he has guidelines and laws to follow (and I believe that doctoro's information is correct), its up to them to decide how long they give you.
My experience has been if you have a return ticket with a specific date and explain why you want the time, they will give it to you more times than not if its within the law. But its not a guarantee.
Good luck and enjoy your long stay on the Rock.
Thanks doctoro and eric for the info provided. I am certainly looking forward to my stay in JA and Treasure Beach in particular.
