Does anyone know if we can still get sprats? Would so love to have some, with salt and lime, when next I'm in TB.

Hey fishy, fishy, fishy, I your humble Spratta am your man(I hope you are a woman, otherwise I ain't).
I have a casting net, which I use to catch lots of sprats...after Jason James, who now has a net, showed me where to throw...prior to that,I threw and threw and caught nothing, now I am an expert and I earned the noble name: Spratta!!
One problem, I may not be there when you are,but if you know where to find JJ you could be enjoying those tasty morsels soon.
I hope I am not committing a wrong,by giving my friend's name to fishy.

Thank you Carlton. With everything becoming scarce nowadays, it's good to know they are still around. Maybe some day we'll share them; it's a small world after all.

fishy, somethings fishy here indeed. You can say its a small world after all, evidently because you know me, what can I say, I'm talking to a fish!!Are you female of the specie...I guess you are...you haven't responded to my attempt at humour.
Or was the diminutive a reference to the fish?

What are Sprats?

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of page Link to this message  By Carlton Reynolds on Tuesday, November 23, 2010 - 07:46 pm: Edit Post

Sprats are small fish somewhat like sardines, but a little bigger. They are caught using a casting net. They are very bony, fried crisp they are quite delectable. If you are in TB when I am there I will surely let you sample them. They are nice roasted on an open fire as well.
Hey neighbour, I think I know who you are, I will be there in December.

Oh no Carlton, I would never use "the dimunitive" in that respect. Heaven forbid! I'm orig from TB but I don't believe we've met. Different generations I think. My gender matters not in cyber space; different reality in the matrix. If you ever finally meet turey, tell him "downderoad" says to have a cold one on him. Bowl will pick up the tab for me once he tells him who I am. Small world after all!

Tom and Jeannie, I would like you to have a pleasant surprise: I recommend you wait till you are in TB (assuming you aren't) to find out what they are. You'll be glad you did.

Hey fishy, I still don't understand the small world comment, since you say we haven't met.I am sure turey and Bowl have read your post...but you better tell him to give me one two..a mean too, or no sprat!!

No pun intended Carlton. I say small world because many of us know each other once we peek behind the aliases. Since I don't know you personally, I had no idea you support the brewery. Now you've told me, by all means go for it. Bowl and I are kin, he'll have a good laugh (or not) when he finds out who's sticking him with the tab!
I see you've already spilled the sprats to Tom and Jeannie. Bon appetite.

hey fishy, gender does matter sir, knowing gender will influence how you address someone or some topic. It is not the chauvinist in me, it is the extra respect I have for the ladies. I have a few beers,in moderation, and if I have something to celebrate, then maybe more than moderation. I remember being on my way to Kingston, and running into Bowl at a shop near Das eh whey? Not having seen him for over 40 yrs,he said to me I know your face but I can't remember your name. I said to him, dont tell me yours I will......Herseley, I said, surprising myself as well as him. Well after that we had a few, then a few more, and I ended up having to cancel my trip. Not inebriated, mind you, but would have been unwise to continue.
By the way does anyone remember the Sprattas of old,I think one was called "Tarpum" and another "Sinkit"

Your cyber manners are to be admired sir, although respect is due to everyone. Yes, Bowl is a great guy and I also think he'd give you a good run for your money should the both of you run for Mayor. Lastly I think you meant "Tarpon" and "Sinit". I'm not sure about the last one though. Cheers!

Hey fishy, I see you know your fish...but there was a 'Spratta' of old who was called 'tapum', a corruption of tarpon which is still in use today, and there was a 'sinkit',which I don't think is a corruption of snit, not 'sinit'.
Sinit reminds me of Smith, lots of people say, simit.
I see I got your gender right, but you should change your alias, as fishy....sounds... fishy!!
I agree,Bowl is a great guy....I had not really interacted with him prior to the encounter I mentioned previously, but he has become one of my favourite TB denizens. There is nothing like home, even though the majority of my life has been spent outside,I feel the greatest attachment to TB, and nowhere else gives me that special feeling of belonging, and this is due, of course, to the great people, Bowl being one. I am going to beat sir Bowl, because I am using cyberspace, like Obama did, to canvass votes! YES I CAN!

Aye Carlton, you are right about those two sprat catchers, 'Tapum' was from Fort Charles and 'Sinkit' was from Lewis Town. Carlton I think fishy and mr. no name from another link is one and the same. From she mention teddy bear I knew it and I also think her name is R.H. Thanks fishy for your complement. Carlton can have that mayor's job, I am now retired from active politics. One writer put 1 and 1 together {Bowl and Hursley} and got 1, so after such great math.equasional discovery the writer can also add moxamh@yahoo.com and still have one.

Sorry Bowl but Mr No Name and I have nothing in common. I did ask your better half about six months ago in Cross Roads for your email address but either I wrote the wrong thing, or she gave me the wrong info. Anyway, better late than never. I'll link you at the above.

Bowl, I didn't consider your name an alias for the purpose of this site as, I thought, everyone knows who you are, and when I saw the names linked I felt free to relate our little encounter. Mr No Name,is male according to his comments, well fishy also seems to be male, and your kin, no name is white and foreign, therefore your conclusions must be wrong old chap.
Did anybody regularly catch sprats after those two gentlemen?
I am going to assume the role of sheriff, round up the usual suspects, repair to your watering hole and discuss matters of state...they say never look a gift horse in the mouth, but if the Trojans had done that to the Trojan horse, things might have turned out differently. Too many people are willing to accept anything, for very little.Gratitude is one thing, subservience is quite another.Blessings BroBowl.

hey fishy, you noticed I and I corrected Bowl before you did. Now I have a challenge for you,or anyone else who think they can write,to write a short story using the following words: prologue, misfeasance, hypocrisy, guidelines, disclaimerand epilogue. A prize of dozens of sprats fried or roasted by yours truly is offered.

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of page Link to this message  By fishy on Thursday, December 02, 2010 - 11:51 pm: Edit Post

I must decline the challenge brother Carlton, as I don't want to eat off all your fish! Plus I manouver through guidelines and disclaimers all day and really come to this site for escape and levity. Perhaps one day we'll all have an opportunity to meet up and put a serious dent in the sprat population. Until then, walk good.

fishy, you have to guard against Alzheimer's disease, by teasing the brain....I know you are not of my generation but you have to start early. How about one sentence then? Anyone? Was it Shakespeare who said "brevity is the soul of wit", I think he should have said "levity"!har, har!
Looking forward to those sprats myself.

fishy, thanks for telling me who you are.I wont tell who you are. I know who turey is but I wont tell either. Will link you later cuz.

After the Prologue provided the relevant guidelines, some members supported it without even realizing that misfeasance was committed and hypocrisy was the order of the day. In spite of a disclaimer the Epilogue considered all the above and then some.

So now Carlton, what about the sprats? I mean the prize...or do I need to try again?

Not baad, but I said one sentence, so you need to wheel and come again...at the moment you are up to one dozen sprats!!

Hey Bowl...someone else made the connection long time on 'Open Letter thread'.
Hey the first plane landed some days ago, at the new runway, there is nothing there to warrant calling it an Aerodrome.Pictures in the Sunday Magazine. I know the pilot.
