I saw Oshane and Roshane yesterday and they showed me the following. They found it in the sea and are assuming it is an old bell.

Any ideas?

They are also interested in selling it and would like to know of any interested buyers. You can email me if you are interesed and I will get word to them.

bell1

bell2

bell3

I was thinking a bell from a ship wreck, school or church. Definitely old.

My guess is it's a cast iron valve from a mid 19th century flush toilet. The old ones with the steel tank on top.

Keep on looking twins. After one thousand five hundred years, there must be stuff around.

Best.

Has anyone ever thought that this might have been used as an anchor by some fisherman? Yes it looks like a bell but someone might have picked it up elsewhere and used it to anchor their boat.

Got my centuries wrong. 20th century. Could well have been used as an anchor in light weather.

For what it is worth I have today spoken to the Curator of Maritime Antiquities at the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich, London, who looked the photos on the web. She said it is NOT a bell but was at a loss to suggest what it might be. As I will be in TB within the week I will seek out the twins and have a closer look myself and maybe take some more photos. It may not be maritime at all so keep the guesses coming !
