Lorain, better know as Junior, resides in Barbary Hall but is originally from Ridge Pen District, St. Elizabeth. He is 37 years old and a former farmer. He was diagnosed with End Stage Renal Disease in June of 2007. In addition, he suffers from hypertension and glucoma in his right eye.
It is necessary for Junior to receive haemodialysis twice per week at a cost of $8,000 JA per session.
He also requires erythropoietin replacement threrapy after each dialysis session at an additional cost of $4,300 JA per session.
The closest place for him to receive these treatments are in Mandeville which add transportation costs of $1500 for each trip on to his expenses.
He is presently doing well on dialysis but as you can well imagine he has exhausted his financial reserves and is hereby seeking assistance. He is required to come up with $27,600 JA per week (approximately $330 US) for the above expenses alone. He needs to take several medications for this, the glocoma, and hypertension - all of which are additional costs. Right now he needs special glasses but cannot afford them.
The National Health Fund pays for some of the less expensive prescriptions but does not pay for the more costly ones.
There is a dialysis machine at the Public Hospital in Mandeville, however, it is not operational. Whenever they ask about the machine the answer given is "It's not ready yet." without being given any further explanation. The only other public health hospitals which have a dialysis machine is Montego Bay and Kingston. The twice weekly travel to and from these locations make them prohibitive. Therefore, he is having to fund the cost of a private facility for this treatment.
Junior is asking you for your help, whether in the much needed funding, advice, use of contacts to see about getting the dialysis machine up and running in Mandeville Public Hospital, thoughts and prayers or any other assistance. Any and all assistance would be greatly appreciated.
You can contact Junior through his mother Coleen Berlin-Sancroft at 876-855-8750.

Thank you in advance for your concern.
I had the privilege of meeting both Junior and his mother Colleen on Saturday. I was so impressed with their optimism and determination in the face of such daunting challenges.
I wish them both all the best in their daily struggle as they were both an inspiration to me.
Hi Rebecca, Thank you so much for the visit and concern & everything else.
Can the ministry of health give us some information on the machine at the mandeville hospital.
Where is Barbary Hall in relation to TB?
it is on the out skirt of treasure beach.
This is sad hope he will get some help both from God and some good hearted people.
This is sad. He looks like such a good person. Can anyone tell me when he is home? I would like to stop by, iof possible, but would like to know if that is OK and what times he is there?
call 855-8750 and make some arrangement with his mother and that should be fine.
What happen to the machines at mandeville hospital are they in operation.
