Can anyone say if the regular route from MoBay airport to Treasure Beach is driveable all the way or are there any detours necessary as a result of the rains?

If detours are necessary, how much time does it add to the journey?

I did it yesterday and there are several detours. The roads and conditions are changing daily so I would highly recommend talking with someone the morning of or the day before you take the trip. Or, even better, when you are questioning if a road is passable, stop a taxi operator coming from that direction and ask them. They know the road conditions better than anyone and are happy to give you advice.

As of yesterday, Fullerswood (half way between TB and Black River) is still impassable so you need to take the detour at Williamsfield.

Haddo, located in the hills past Whithorn is (and from what I understand will be for a while) impassable, so folks are taking the New Market route instead. However, again, as of yesterday the road from Black River to Middle Quarters in Ashton was impassable so we went via Brompton to Luana and then up from Middle Quarters. Once you get into New Market there is another detour as the town is flooded out. This detour is well marked but it is a dirt (muddy when wet) road.

Overall, it took us 3 hours to get to Mobay thanks to the detours and potholes. This was no small storm as it dumped over 2 feet of rain on us in 4 days. The roads will take some time to repair and flood waters will take some time to recede. My advice, again, is to check with someone who has recently taking the trip just before departing and give yourself plenty of extra time.

With Rebecca's description of the drive between MoBay airport and Treasure Beach, I got to wondering about the airstrip. Any update?

Thanks, Rebecca.
In addition to asking for myself, I want to be able to advise visitors from abroad. Seems it may be easier if they land in Kingston. I drove Kingston to Treasure Beach last Sunday with no major road problems and no detours.

I think going to and from Mobay is just fine. The roads will get better each day as the water recedes. Just take your time.

Not trying to be a brown nose Rebecca, but I couldn't help chuckling when I noticed how at ease you were mentioning all these different locations. You know more than many of us born and grown in Ja.

Ah, but please remember, I drove a minibus for about 12 years in Jamaica. I've clocked many hundreds of trips to and from Mobay and know many many detours and roads all over this beautiful island.

I still get a chuckle when one of my drivers will call me and ask directions.

I drove Kingston to Negril on Saturday aternoon/evening in the rain with no problems except a few (many?) more potholes in the road, especially around Whitehouse. Sunday afternoon I drove Negril to Treasure Beach, coming through Black River with no problem (the road just beyond Parotee heading out of Black River had a lot of water, but we managed).

Soon the bad weather will be gone, and lets hope they do something about the roads then.
