I think visitors would love to participate in these efforts. Maybe another clean-up day in February. We'll be there.

We've had rain every day for several days including pouring rain for a good part of last night. However, for the beach clean-up day yesterday we were blessed with nothing but beautiful sunshine!

Many volunteers gathered at all the beaches with team leaders Karla Parchment, Annabelle Todd, Dennis Abrahams, Celeste Anderson, and a Tranquility Bay recruit assigned to each beach. Laura Henzell coordinated all the leaders and made sure the paperwork was filled out appropriately as a major part of this clean-up is to gather important information on the type of garbage collected. Laura will share this information with us once it has been tabulated.

Special thanks go to The Treasure Beach Citizens Alert Group, BREDS, Treasure Beach Women's Group, Lions Club of Southfield, Bethel Gospel Church, Tranqulity Bay Recruits and all the many residents of Treasure Beach and the surrounding area for all their hard work and effort making this one of the most successful beach clean-up days ever!

Many citizens of Billy's Bay held a beach clean-up for Billy's Bay beach the day before giving the clean-up efforts a head start.

Let's hope each year this happens there is less and less garbage to pick up and we can eventually just have it as a Beach Appreciation Day instead of a Clean-up Day. . . Wouldn't that be nice.

You can view photos of the day here or by the link in the Photo Gallery

Even before I read what Rebecca had written I was thinking wouldn't it be so nice to talk about this more so the next clean-up day there will be hardly any thing to clean-up.

BEACH APPRECIATION DAY..JUST KEEP SPREADING THE WORD ONE PERSON TO THE OTHER EVERY TIME SOMEONE SEES SOMEONE THROWING GARBAGE ON THE BEACH...OR WHERE GARBAGE DOES NOT BELONG TO BE.

We see and know how horrible this is to the environment, how disgusting it looks when we walk in and around our communities, so why not get more involved and speak up every time we see someone throw things where they do not belong.....Let us teach our kids not to do this and even pick up thinks and throw it in a garbage bin if one is close by.

IT DOES NOT HURT---JUST WASH YOUR HANDS AFTER PLEASE.

Fantastic job Treasure Beach! We had a great clean up at Fort Rocky on the Palisadoes strip ... as reports come in from around the island, we will post them on our Facebook page - for those of you on Facebook, you can join the Jamaica Environment Trust page and read about all the clean ups islandwide.

Starting with the firsherman, when they go out to see, do not little keep the trash in your boats, when you return, you put it in a garbage can,,,the same with the beach walkers, with their juice drinks and snacks

I have to say that I think the fishermen and citizens of Treasure Beach are very conscientious about cleaning up their own beaches on a daily basis. When you compare them to other fishing/commercial beaches in Jamaica they are almost pristine and I know the fishermen take a lot of pride in keeping their beaches clean. But, I do think that the Billy's Bay beach needs a skip where they can dispose of fiberglass and other boat building material.

But how they do when they are out to sea, a lot of garbage comes from the sea, so how does it get there? that is the million dollar question

I think a lot of the garbage on the south coast is a result of what pours out of the gullies in Kingston, into the sea and down the coast. Not to say the fishermen don't pollute but not to the extent that the gullies in Kingston do.

Already after the storm they were on Calabash Bay beach cleaning up.
