Local hero's. Yesterday Kory South (owner of Sunset Villa) and Raymond Moxam
(aka Talla) found Trevor Malcolm (aka Cowboy) and his son Romeo Malcolm (aka
Buchy) of Rocky Point drifting 19 miles off shore in a 28ft fiberglass canoe
called King of Glory. Cowboy and Buchy were on their way to Pedro Key from
Rocky Point when they developed engine trouble which resulted in them
drifting for 4 days. "My son and I and very thankful to Kory, Talla, and
Andrew for saving our lives. They carried me to Calabash Bay where Dennis
Abrahams (aka Shabba - director of Breds Treasure Beach Foundation) took the
best care of me and my son until my family came to meet me and take me home.
To the end they are by my side. I am more than happy and give thanks to God
that they saved our lives. I always will remember the kindness of Kory,
Talla, Andrew and Dennis. I want to encourage all fishermen that whenever
you going to sea, always remember to take a spare engine and phone or radio
because it may look simple, but it is very important. Love and Joy will keep
me to the end. Thanks also to Jason for telling this story".

There are good people still in this world with all the bad that is happening here, there, and all over the world.

Thanks to the people of Treasure Beach for jumping in and doing good when it is needed.
Love TB,
God Bless.

At the risk of sounding not grateful for what these brave men did, could someone explain BREDS involvement in this incident. Shabba, a wonderful man, helped care for the fishermen after their rescue and BREDS posted a photo. All good. But the actual heroes are the men who did the rescue.

The article and photo came from a BREDS representative so TB.Net gave credit to BREDS for providing the information.

This is standard procedure. We always attempt to give credit to the source of the information/photos.

This is why I am so afraid of the open sea !!!
Once I can't see land, the FEAR begins !!!
Praise to the rescuers LOVE !!

On a side note, we've instituted some new controls on the site, one of which is an automatic profanity checker. (This was done to help block spam, FYI)

You can see the effects in a couple messages posted here that have red dots ( ) instead of green text.

However, we don't have any way of telling what the original text was and are curious what was blanked out.

So MikeyMike, native, or axel&andrea, could you let us know what you wrote so we can see if the filter is too aggressive. Please email us at webmaster@treasurebeach.net (just posting it here would, presumably, blank it out)

Thanks for your help,
-TBNet

Thank you. I now understand why TB.Net gave credit to BREDS for providing the information. I do not understand why BREDS also has this news on their new website. Is it because one of their people happened to have a camera or because Shabba is one of their Directors. My point is BREDS does enough in the community it is unnecessary to IMPLY credit for the accomplishments of others. When Rebecca took the pictures of the baby turtles she was very careful NOT to imply she helped protect their nests and she gave all the credit to the people who did. She never IMPLIED she had anything to do with the baby turtles other than being glad OTHER people took their time and energy to protect them. It is one thing to be a reporter and another for the reporter to somehow suggest he had something to do with the story.

I agree with Question.

I agree with "Question" .. the point IS the men being rescued by brave souls, not who took the photo.

Credit is not due to the photographer in such an instance - in my opinion as it takes away from the generous act of saving lives

Hello Eric,
I do not use swear words on this site or any other site but I noticed when I repeatedly pressed the period key the other day it was also coming up red.
Could not figure out why this was happening when it had never happened before and I usually used it.

I did notice all the reds that day but I'm sure no one was swearing because it happened to me also so I decided to cancel my post.

I'm so thankful BREDS posted this for us to see.At least their relatives can see their faces and rejoice.

THANKS BREDS.

Seems to me that BREDS was trying to do the same thing as we do from time to time: show good news about Treasure Beach and Jamaica as a whole.

Nothing wrong with that from my point of view.

I agree with Meex!
What a fantastic saving well done guys!

I helped by raising an alarm when i watched an American guy at Jakes just confidently power swim out to sea, then i noticed he couldnt get back! I had been glued watching him so was able to point him out as nobody could see him! He was lucky a guest and someone from jakes actually saved him.i was soo glad i raisedthe alarm as was his pregnant wife!
Moral of the two stories is always ask locals before swimming in unfamilliar water to check its safe and fishermen must have mobile phones, radio and spare engine onboard.

It made me really happy to read this story of heroism.

Why can people find bad in good, always amazes me!

I'm glad all turned out well. Underwater, a buddy system is the agreed way of operating, with signals and watching each other for perils. On the surface, the boat skipper is in charge. All are each others keeper. We are land people in a different world and we depend on artificial means of support.

Years ago a group of us went to Hellshire. I was alerted by someone that a friend had disappeared. He, a non swimmer went to the assistance of a girl in trouble. He was never seen again.

I was body surfing Frenchmans in July weather and got slapped to the bottom real hard. Could have been knocked out early morning with no one around. I prefer to give the scary stories to reinforce that sea is not a joke business.

Please learn to swim! Once you follow the rules, whole heap of fun and wonders.

Fisherman, please go out with 100% gear in 100% condition.
