Lots of visitors to Treasure Beach want to know what they can do for the schools and the children. We are proud to say we have joined forces with "Pack for a Purpose." This is a wonderful group who asks for no donations for themselves--only for things the children can use. If you have items that are needed, or you are willing to buy a few things and tuck them in your suitcase, you can help. It's that easy. For links to what the schools need, please go to:

http://www.packforapurpose.org/docs/countries/jamaica/rainbow-tree-villa.shtml

You can drop off your contributions at either Rainbow Point or Rainbow Tree, and our staff will be delighted to deliver them to the local schools. If you don't have transportation, please ask the staff where you are staying to deliver them to one of our places when they get the time.

And, to make things even easier, here are some resources where you can get some much-needed supplies at a discount.

Thank you for caring.

Yes it is a Great idea to do this. On my last visit to TB I just brought books directly to the primary school in TB.
However, there was several occasions that I brought clothes to donate to a church in MoBay and a couple of times I had to pay a duty on them because the Customs Agent would not believe that I was donating them. They tought I was going to give them to a higgler. So the next time I tried to get the proper documents for donating to a charity in Jamaica, but this proved extremely difficult, so I gave up on the plan to bring more clothes for donation. From my research, I understand that schoold supplies are exempt from customs duty, but I would still not take the chance of declaring them on a Customs form.
ONE LOVE !!
Mike

A wise person doesn't declare gifts on a customs form period.:-)

It's easier not to mess with Customs. This is a shame because of all the people like MikeyMike who go through hell trying to do a good deed. I suggest people tuck a few pounds of needed supplies in a suitcase and sail through Customs. It might not be as much as you want to bring, but it saves you the hassles.

There are school supplies for sale everywhere , even the likkle shops in Frenchman`s, at Crossroads, and of course Black River. It is easier and alot fun to shop for them there. unless you get something for free at home..

Very helpful information! We just picked up a bunch of school supplies on sale, and we'll bring them along when we 'come home' in January. The smiles on the children's faces when they see those school supplies is priceless!
