I went to the site for Minerva House. I was surprised to see it said
Private Beach
Minerva House boasts its own secluded private beach with crystal clear blue waters.
I didn't think a private beach was legal in Jamaica. Is it?
I think the better word to use there would be secluded. It is not a private beach insofar as there is no fencing or anything else inhibiting anyone from walking the beach, however, it is an "untraversed" area making it very secluded which is probably what they meant by private.
Rebecca is correct. The owners may not have known better when they wrote the words for their website. To those who DO know, it is somewhat deceptive.
Is it possible to walk from Calabash Bay to Frenchman`s along the beach?
Thanks.
Thanks for explaining this so well Rebecca.
We went to war sometime ago because of this same subject "Private Beach" and I'm sure we do not want to see this happen again. All it does is put the community apart and God knows Treasure Beach Residents are Loving, Kind and Gentle folks and living good amongst each other is very, very important.
Love to all,
Murnel.
I would change the words on the site to avoid any future misunderstandings.
Where is Minerva House? I tried to place it from looking at the photos, but couldn't.
If you look on the map in the Where to Stay section and click on Billy's Bay/Ft. Charles, Minerva is located about a 3 minute drive from Rainbow Tree heading towards Ft. Charles.
To Dorothy: The coastline between Calabash Bay and Frenchman's Bay is very rocky. The only time you could attempt to walk it is in a very very calm sea. Even then I would not recommend it as it could be dangerous with slippery rocks, etc.
Thanks, Rebecca.
