Was thinking the other day of ways local crafts people could make an EXCELLENT living and I came across "PIRATE SHIPS". Not just cheap looking, but ones with cannons, sales, wooden hull, mass, flags, etc. I know many professionals all over the world who would love a 3 foot "WELL MADE" PIRATE SHIP above their desk or in a lobby, etc. IF crafts people became so good at creating "DETAILED" ships, they could sell for $1000 a piece easy. It just needs one CREATIVE crafts person to plan the design\specs and then have others supply the material. Comments

Good idea!Craft talents and and people with marketing skills could check into this one out. From my side of the fence, this looks like it could be a winner.

I am wondering if there is a community group where this idea could be further discussed and people with the skills for this project given proper guidance and support.

I hope this could be a project to provide employment and an outlet for much of the underutilized talents of people in the Treasure Beach area.

Great Idea, I always say when you go into the craft markets and other places, each shop has the same things, rarely something new, I dont beleive I have ever seen a pirate ship , for sale in Jamaica made by Jamaicans. I am sure someone at the womans group could assist, put me on the list for a pirate ship ship , I want one.

$1,000 each for a souvenir that is not an original? I would think the market would be limited to one--the first and original one, assuming it is excellent.

Robert at Doubloon does this sort of work. I imagine he'd be thrilled if he received $1,000 for one of his gorgeous works. He is an artist who works in wood. I do not believe he could teach it to anyone who wasn't an artist to begin with. This is not like learning to paint a fence or silkscreen a tee shirt.

Check out Robert's work here or go to the Art Gallery to see his work and the works of other local artists.

Here is one on Ebay that I found. Robert does good work but I was thinking something "seriously" MORE deatailed. A type of detail that would make ST. Bess workers" proud to come to work each day. It can be done. Imagine a workshop with 40 employees and several outside vendors right there in St. Bess. Go to EBAY and search for "Caribbean Pirate Ship wooden"
