On Thursday March 22, 2010 the Sandy Bank Primary School hosted its Annual Sports Day. Three houses took part in the competition and vied for first place. Two of the houses are named after citizens in the community; Smith House and Henry House while Jake’s House is named after the establishment Jake’s.

Sports day began with Jake’s House, the reigning champions parading around the track in purple. They were followed by Henry House in red and then Smith House in yellow. Students competed in the 800 metres, 60 metres, 150 metres, 200 metres, 100 metres, 400 metres, lime and spoon, 3 legged race, sack race, potato race and relays. Students from the different houses also showcased their talents in the cheer leading competition.

The Children competed in events according to their age groups and grades. The groups ranged from grades 1-2, grades 3-4 and grades 5-6. The Sandy Bank Basic School was present and had students competing in four events which included the tyre race and the 60 metre dash.

The judges were Pastor W. Campbell, Mrs. N. Moxam, Mrs. M. Campbell and Mrs. M. Gordon. The marshals and starters were chosen from the community, Tranquility Bay Police Training Academy and the teachers of the Sandy Bank Basic School. The Tranquility Bay Police Academy played a pivotal role in preparation of the track.

At the conclusion of the scheduled events, Smith House emerged the winner and the “Champion House for 2010” with a total of 326 Points. Second Place went to Jake’s House with a total of 315 Point and third place went to Henry House with a total of 222 points.

Sports Day 2010 was a success as the community and the schools united to make the day a fun filled one.
