I've just been trawling the net for my mother- in-law to visit Jamaica in July/August with her grandson. I am astounded at the rip off prices.Almost £1000 each return. I've checked charter and scheduled companies including direct from the UK and also via the US.Only 2 years ago we paid £300 return. I am appalled. She really needs to visit her mother in Clarendon and is a pensioner herself. No wonder we've not been able to visit for over 2 years.Need a 4th job just to save for flights,I already have 3!

Hi ukgirl, i have just booked a flight for jan 2011 and have got a great deal with flythomascook. I took a quick look for you and i dont know all your details or how old the grandson is, but if the grandson is a child then i saw a price for £1243 for 1 adult and 1 child return from gatwick london. The dates were for 4 weeks starting from the 12th july. Hope this helps, cant do no harm 2 check it out, Good luck !!!

This might sound insane, but what about flying to the US and then going from here. We have reasonably priced flights.

Hi Donna, her grandson is old enough to be classed as adult unfortunately. I think it's because it's school holidays, when you really get ripped off. Will check out Thomas Cook though. When we flew with Thomson it was a brilliant price but they have now merged with First Choice and the price has rocketed to the same as BA and Virgin. I looked at flying to the US but it's a lot of hassle and not much cheaper in the long run.I really have no idea where to look now. Think she'll just have to bite the bullet and pay a massive price. Thanks for your advice.

Take a look at charterflights.co.uk, they have some Gatwick, Birmingham and Manchester flights into Mobay for around the £600 mark during the summer holidays. Thomsonfly.com also has some mid-August flights - for a fortnight's stay - into Mobay for around the same price.

From past experience, the summer holiday flight prices generally dip slightly in July, but not by much.
