across from the golden sands guest house in frenchmen's bay
you will see a road - looks like a laneway, thats the way, just a few steps up the road and you will see the sign for the wild onion

on the way look out for kim's place and the kasha tree bar right at the corner
kim is a great cook, and marty keeps some of the coolest drinks in all of treasure beach - tell them i say hi

Yes, Miss Kim can surely cook!! We had numerous great meals there during our last stay. My only complaint with the Onion is that the music is WAY TO LOUD until the wee hours of the morning. Personally, I could probably get used to it if i lived there all the time....but numerous visitors were stating they wouldn't be returning because of the level of noise from the place. If this continues (complaints from visitors) the Onion won't be prospering at all in the end.....sad as it can be a great venue.

How prophetic!! I see the place is now up for sale! Respect for other peoples rights is key!

Unamplified guitar, drum, flute etc would be great. At the right times and place.

I enjoyed South Jamming this summer and support what Joe/Drummie keeps alive but sympathised with the neighbours whatever the hour. I did listen to the young people talk of their lack of recreational facilities. Not all want noise until dawn. The Sports Park seems to be the right scale and intent and will fill a gap.

Boob, Boom ,Boom...for hours non stop is not friendly to neurons or neighbours. The Mayahuacan was used with focus and at prescribed times. You know I couldn't leave our Taino out of the reasoning.

I dont understand , I am from the US and visited Wild Onion on more than one occasion and the place is so entertaining.. I come to Jamaica for Redstripe Beer, reggae music and sunshine.. as far as i see it is the only spot for night entertainment for us as tourist and local to promote community tourism , if that is what we are about ...u get to hang with the locals and have a good time...everybody should try to work together to improve on the wonderful thing u guys have.

Rob,I couldn't agree with you more I am a former resident of TB left there in the mid eighties.they would have clubs and bars open playing loud music until 4 in the morning and no one complained and all of a sudden the music is too loud please give me a break here it's our life style.

@For: Totally agree and this is what I have been saying for ages. Few years ago there used to be music day and night now you hardly hear anything. If you are lucky there is a dance at the weekend. So why are people complaining? But then again when I am there I dont hear noone complain. Only on here! It will soon be where have all the young men gone cause so many have left!

All you people with Cottages and Guesthouse,do you realise that the volume of visitor to Treasure Beach gets less. One reason is there is no entertainment..People do not come to T.Beach to be caged in and locked up in house..for that they will go to an all-inclusive. Lets not spoil what the community is about, meeting greeting and having a good time.

I will agree and disagree all in one.

First; Play your music with discretion. Not too loud until it shake the buildings close by.

Second: Please have a cut off time out of respect for everyone living near and far.

Believe me if that is done you will prosper more than you realize.

Loud isn't better---Long hours until wee hours in the mornings is even worst.

Is there no regulation enforcement in place for areas in Jamaica?

Clubs and bars are open in the US until 3am isn't ?all they need to do is turn the music down after hours.while I was on vacation home last Christmas I met a tourist and he was complaining how dead it is at nights in TB nothing to do or go he said, and that was gonna be his last trip to the area. This is 2010 you guys need to think about the young people too.I visit the area often and by 10 pm in bed no where to go which I think is sad. Need some night life in TB please.

Sorry Rob your statistics are incorrect and I say this as a villa owner whose business has increased. If the visitors to Treasure Beach have dropped off as you say it's not because there is no entertainment but perhaps because of the world wide recession. No where in Treasure Beach is ANY guest locked in in fact it is completely the opposite. Nowhere else in the rest of Jamaica do visitors walk freely on the road without harassment, support local shops and restaurants as they do here, go on boat tours with local fishermen or boat operators, or mingle and just play dominoes and drink a beer with locals. What a lot of people who think like you fail to understand is that Treasure Beach is unique and people are NOT coming to this area looking for endless nightly entertainment, casinos, large shopping malls etc. I have just had guests at my villa for two weeks and they never ran out of things to do and places to explore.
This is not to say we couldn't use a nice place at night that plays good music and serves some good food and has a nice vibe but loud music squawking out of huge speaker boxes is not what visitors are looking for.
I think it's what Jamaicans (and I am Jamaican by the way) are looking for and nothing wrong with that, they should have it, but don't pretend it's for the tourists. Again, that is NOT what they are looking for nine times out of ten.
If Wild Onion had kept their music to a tolerable level and had respected the law that place would have made a killing. Music doesn't have to be loud to be good and for people to enjoy themselves.

I'm into loud, high quality 60's rock. Hendrix and Led Zeppelin pouring their souls out. I see no reason to affect others with this. Be it Reggae, Dancehall or Chopin, use earphones or acoustically insulate the area.

If one wants this type of surrounding there is Negril. It's not the lack of nightlife, I think it's the shortage of cash, everywhere.

Really!!I thought people came to TB because it is a quiet, sleepy,restful,laid-back,beautiful, friendly, little fishing village!!!!! People who want the kinds of things you are suggesting will go somewhere else. If you want TB to cater to the hippie type crowd, and the crowd that dont respect the right of people to enjoy a peaceful rest at nights then go right ahead mon! Young men have always been leaving places like TB to seek their fortune, then they return to seek peace and quiet!!

My husband and I visited a club in Treasure Beach about 15 years ago. I don't know the name but it was almost next door to Golden Sands. We went because we wanted to dance and drink and hang out with locals. We left after about 1/2 hour because the music was intolerably loud. The speakers were about the size of refrigerators. We couldn't speak. We couldn't hear each other. We couldn't really hear the music--only boom boom boom. We didn't come to Treasure Beach to end up losing our hearing. Bigger is not always better. Louder is definitely not always better. I have to agree with A.Todd. What is keeping people away is they have no money. That's why we have not visited in almost 2 years. When we come back to Treasure Beach it will be for the people and not to go into a loud club to make our heads hurt.
