I know nothing about whether or not goats milk is available..but I do know that soy milk can be easily bought in both Blackriver and at the crossroads grocery store...good luck and enjoy! We just returned from TB and wish we were still there!

I don't know if it's available commercially, but if my grandfather was still alive, he'd tell you what to do: He used to go out into the yard every morning and milked the ewe before drawing his coffee!

Isn't goats milk a dairy product? Dairy products are generally defined as foods produced from milk. I was just wondering if goats milk is different?

Goats milk is sure a dairy product but soy milk is not.

This link may help answer some questions.

I remember being told stories of my Uncle Jake having a goat farm many many years ago and selling goat's milk to folks with allergies to cow's milk. This was quite a specialty back in those days (1940's - 50's). I always thought that was interesting as I grew up on a dairy (Holstein cows) farm.

I've often wondered why we cannot get either goat milk or goat cheese around here. You can find some imported and very expensive goat cheese in some supermarkets, but I have not seen any domestic.

dear folks,

thanks so much for your posts. sadly, both evelyn and i are not able to tolerate soy milk either. i use goat's milk for my coffee much like the grandfather referred to above. since we often see goats being cared for, we thought that there might be a source for the milk. we also love goat cheese. maybe we can pick some up en route in MBJ. we can't wait to arrive and we hope the weather is again beautiful. peace, jeff and evelyn

You can definitely buy goat cheese in MoBay. Try Megamart. Have never seen goat milk there or anywhere else in Jamaica. You can but goat milk powder in the US and bring it with you. I find it a shame more things are not done with goat milk in Jamaica. Someone gave me goat milk soap for Christmas, and it's the best soap I ever used in my life.

Why not visit one of your Health Food Stores and see if they carry goats milk in powder form.
Whole Foods Market or the Vitamin Shoppe are good ones to check- out.
The Organic Valley Products are also very, very good.
They should have it on the shelf just like they do cows milk.
I buy those in times of hurricane season. They taste delicious.
Hope this helps. Enjoy your stay in beautiful TB.

We had a guest at Hikaru a year ago with a similar problem. We put them in touch with folks at Button Bay. They said their large goat herd is really for meat, and they don't ordinarily milk, but they could provide in a small quantity. You might try them again.

I have never really understood why their are so many goats and so little goat milk. It is so good for babies, so easy on their digestion. The cheese is really easy to make and SO GOOD! The cream on the top is to die for.
