A group of men and women out of Kingston that have been shooting birds every season for the past 10 years in and around the TB area have been very good to the people of Bluntas and Lewis Town.
Every now and then they will bring down packages of food, shoes, clothing and school books. Especially when we have a disaster like a hurricane they load up and come down.
Their greatest and most recent contribution was on nov. 21. The group led by Mr Norrie Singh gave 12 200 gal. water drums (black tanks) with pipe taps and other fittings to 12 most needed families.
I was asked to make the list, which I was a bit reluctant to do as you know I got "cussed" by the ones that did not get. Mr. Singh promise that this only a start.
The presentation was made at my shop and thanks was given by my wife on behalf of the recipients
A party followed. Curry goat and lots drinks. This was done in Lewis Town.
So you see readers, there are still good people in Kgn. And environmentalist before you start about the poor bird remember bird shooting is an international sport, and Ja. law limit the season to just a few weeks, a limited amount of birds per person and only a few species of birds.
Wow, that sounds just great Bowl. Next time something like this happens, let me know and I will try to come with my camera.
Thanks for sharing this with us and thanks for continuing to be involved with our wonderful community.
Hear, Hear!
Wonderful news/visual.
Thank you for sharing.
Thanks Rebbeca,
I have nough pics but I am not sure the people will
want to be seen on the net.
I understand completely. Thanks again Bowl!
The good people done it again.
They came down yesterday unexpectedly loaded with lots goodies and share up for the people of Lewis Town and Bluntas as a Christmas treat. Even me got something, (a lovely piece of ham).I must say a big thank you to them.
God Bless these people for having such grateful hearts in such trying times. I hope that the residents appreciate this gesture. Happy holidays to all in the Lewis Town and Bluntas areas and also to Mr. Moxam and his family.
Fantastic Bowl. Good on you cuz. Merry Christams to all!
happy birthday uncle bowl dont drink too much light beer now
I'm happy for the people that benefit Bowl.
If the bird shooters are outbid, will the people protect the birds?
There are many things that are done in other countries that we would not tolerate here. What makes bird shooting special. Historical precedence? Or....shhhh..gotta let some things slide eh!?
My uncles used to hunt crocs and yellow snakes. A great grandfather made turtle egg and flesh preserves that sold at Harrods in the 19th Century. Black coral jewelry used to be on regular display. No more.
Jamaica; land of wood and water. Woods full of green and the flapping and chirpi.....Bang...
As I said previously; if anyone wants excitement and blood sport, I can arrange hog hunting with spears or the easy way with a rifle. If it's a day with the boys that's required, I can't help.
If you follow you Environmentalists we wouldn't kill a fly! Man! its the way of nature ...prey and predators! its apart of life! AND BIRD MEAT NICE!Done. Its also a past-time...some people shoot birds..some shoot de breeze..simple!
Yes CR, but shooting the breeze is cheap, pain free and troubles no one but the oversensitive.
We would benefit more from organised bird watching tours than bird slaughtering parties.
It's the sport of the kill including the friendship of the shooters. Do you know how little meat there is on one of those birds? Do you know birders usually hire someone else to take the meat off because it's so much trouble. Oh I hate flies. No good purpose on earth except to eat road kill. Mosquitoes are even worse. Wish they were all dead. Guess I'm not a true environmentalist in your eyes.
Turey, you should use your name man. There is a distinct difference between game birds and the lovely tweety birds that I enjoy watching myself. Game birds are like the chicken you eat, only harder to catch. Regulation(which I am not fond of, is a necessary evil)helps to curb abuses- left unchecked some people would shoot de very "Jongcro"!
On the other-hand, the PETA people believe rats have rights..you are not one of those I suppose?
Yes CR, rats have rights to be rats and I have rights to deal with them when needed.
But the birds all tweet RC.
Mr. Reynolds, you seem to be a "newcomer" to this site. Turey has been Turey here for many years. We know his name. Doesn't really matter much. It's what people say that is important. And to be honest, some of your remarks have left me to just shake my head...
Sorry to have RC'd you CR.
Has it been years already Mr NN? Mr Reynolds brings his own perspective. I'd like to know more about the intent and long term view of birds shooters and am glad to have another ready to poke fun at whatever needs a little jook.
Best.
Well Mr No Name,I hope you are always honest..I get suspicious when someone prefaces his statement with to be honest.
Anyway, instead of taking me on about Turey,( and seeing that you know his name, why are you trying to make an issue out of my wanting to know it)why didn't you comment on the things that made you shake your head. I don't mind disagreement, just [edited by TB.Net] say what you honestly think. There is something,I THINK, inherently dishonest about using aliases. There, I use my name, and I am not afraid to say what I truly believe. You may look at it another way..I respect that. I mean no offence.Bless
Sir turey, no need to be sorry, things get turned upside down at times. The name business ,is all about making meaningful contact...the alias seems impersonal in addition to aforementioned belief.
All birds don't tweet...the nice edible ones coo and cluck!!
Mr. Reynolds,
Instead of saying 'to be honest' I should have said 'to be upfront'
I did not comment on why I shake my head because it would just fuel your [edited by TB.Net] statements. Besides, the list is too long.
Some of the best writings ever created are done by the name "anonymous". Have you ever wondered why? Does this make them dishonest as you suggest? More people on this site use an alias than their real names. hey I use more than one actually! There is also privacy. I do not wear my name on the back of my shirt. Do you? I do not want every stranger to know who I am. [edited by TB.Net]there are one or two weird people out there. I love No Name Steaks. Me... Mr. No Name.
But CR, is how yuh get close enough to hear weda dem coo, cluck or tweet?
MR. REYNOLDS welcome you to T.B.com i applaud your input and you revisiting some of the old posting,i dont know you personally, but if your are from the same bloodline of MR.NEVILLE REYNOLDS then i know you are a stand up kinda guy (respect)
Yes Jamrock, thanks for the welcome. Neville Reynolds is my uncle. You are right about uncle Neville, he was a stand up kinda guy. I Try to be.
Hey Sir turey,I knew of your Uncle with the crocs as watch dogs on Hagley Park Rd. I think. If you don't mind my asking, how did you become connected to TB?
There is something with me and birds. I once found a humming bird lying on its back in the road, with its tongue hanging out, looking quite dead. I picked it up and felt a feint heart beat. I took it home and wet it up,and dropped some syrup in its beak. It revived and I put it in a cage to show my kids. After they enjoyed it for awhile we all agreed to release it. I held it in my open palm, but it did not fly away at the same time. It then flew about two feet to my railing, and paused for a little while, then it took off, made a small circle, and flew off at bird speed. Another time a grass quit knocked itself out on my windshield and I revived him in like manner. And yet again,I ran over a kestrel (a small hawk). He looked dead but I picked him up and was able to revive him too.I always wanted to see these birds close up, so I was very pleased that I did and they all survived. So I guess you could say I have a way with birds(of the feathered kind)
I wish I was that lucky with the other kind!!All of us have an innate desire to hunt,or fish. We don't ban fishing, and controlled bird shooting can be tolerated. Birds are really nice, whichever way you take them,as long as we don't abuse them...both kinds!
Peace & Love
Hi CR,
Well said, I am proud of your comments. You are humourous and a great writer. Good comments JAMROCK. Neville Reynolds is also my uncle.
Nuff respect and God bless.
One Love.
I will let you know who I am in an email.
Native of TB.
Hey turey, I forgot to tell you how I got so close to the birds....I rub salt under their wings!!(an old corny joke)
Hey Cuz ! I am looking forward to your EMail. I don't know how much longer I will be welcome on this site....see posting under TB Runnins.
Hi Mr No Name,Sir
Please dont think I was ignoring you. I replied to your posting, but it wasn't published. I will try again this time in a much more sensitive manner. I had said I had no problem with your describing my statements using any adjective you desire(except of course four shilling words). I also pointed out that I saw no connection between the merits of a particular writing and the fact that it was done by 'anon.'Then I suggested that if you really thought about it you may come to the same conclusion.
I think it can be quite entertaining having spirited exchanges, evidently not everyone does. Nuff respek breds.
Hi Mr. Reynolds.
To tell you the truth...er...I mean to be upfront with you, I really have not thought about you ignoring me. Never crossed my mind. I am a very busy guy with lots to do, so this to me is really irrellevant. but apparently it is bothering you. [edited by TB.Net]
Mr. No Name are you the same as mister no name on another thread? If so you seem to be getting more red ink than me! That's curious! Watch those prefaces! Are you trying to get me in trouble?
Jamrock I missed your posting re being related to Neville Reynolds the stand up guy.I am his second daughter with his wife ms mike.I am sister to Sheila Renee Millicent and Madge and cousin to Carlton Reynolds.Hope this is in order. Thanks for your comment.Ifind it hard to give brief answers.Jenny
