Treasure Beach Forum: TB Runnin's: Its a shame
Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of page Link to this message  By samantha on Saturday, December 12, 2009 - 03:43 pm: Edit Post

I once used to enjoy coming onto this forum to read about whats happening in treasure beach, especially when i was due for a visit.

But now, all I seem to read is people moaning about evrything under the sun. when did the forum become so negative? what about all the good things that are happening in treasure beach? does no one report on those things? I understand that there are certain things that are important and needs to be disucssed, but some of it is unnecessary. for example compaining that Jah cure is a rapist and he shouldnt be allowed to perform, what ever happened to apprieciating someone for their talents? whether or not he was innocent or guilty, he did his time and paid his dues, lets move on..

alot of people come on this forum and moan and complain, but never do anything about it. If there is a issue such as the sports park or a sand dune do something about it, dont hide behind the computer, make a change, do something about it, by your actions

come on treasure beach, lets be proud of our accomplishments, lets celebrate treasure beach for what it is a gem.

Sometimes a good thing needs polishing; dust and rust accumulates. It sometimes needs protection.

It can always do with upgrading, as long as the goodness remains.

Appreciation of TB is in the eye of the beholder and in the memories of those of us fortunate to have experienced it. Singing and advertising these praises is a good and natural thing.

To be able to air what is in our hearts or troubling our minds about TB affairs is what is offered here too. Is it not better to air these publicly it than to susu it privately? Worst, to keep it bottled up inside.

And yes, most of us have common sense about what we keep in the family.

Another agreement here. Few people are willing to post their names with their opinions. I can think of Harvey Reynolds, Diana McCawlay, Karen Kennedy, Bowl and Turey though there are probably a few more. Not sure why. Are people afraid they will be looked down on? There are IMPORTANT items such as the sea turtles, the beaches, the canal, the sports park and maybe noise problems. Things like complaining about who is performing where are not worth discussing here.

Trust us, TB.Net agrees as well. So what can we do about it? If we edit or don't post messages we are scorned. If we let some messages go through, the forum becomes negative.

We are currently working on the new revisions to the site and discussion on what to do with the forum is ongoing. One option discussed, especially at times like this, is shutting the forum down. Is that what we should do?

Let's hear your suggestions

What is more important - the message or the messenger? If there is an option to not put your name and people don't what's the big deal! If someone wants to put there name then fine. Let us not lose focus of the message.
I believe there is a balance of both negative and positive. I don't see why persons can't argue negative things in a positive way. Some persons are too 'thin skin' and lose sight of the true message.

I have been suggesting shutting down the forum for a long time. No more it is the place to look forward to finding out what's going on in and around Treasure Beach. I know the sentiments attached to keeping it open but its like a new breed that has decended on it and I can only say they want it closed. Do you know it may not be many people doing it? Do you know it could be one or two? It matters not how many, the damage is being done. Trust me, I will miss it as I look forward to clicking every day but it is no more fun. Webmasters, dont wait for another round of stinging criticisms of you and everything. I am the first to say CLOSE IT DOWN!

I've seen this problem although worse on other forums. It's too bad that a few spoiled apples ruin the whole barrel. I don't know much about how this works or how time consuming it is, but I think the monitor of the other forum was able to block the ISP address of the 'troublemakers'.
I learned a long time ago that you will never please everyone. "[edited by TB.Net]" happens.
I'm sure that sometimes posts that never get posted are not necessarily the monitors fault but operator error or a simple glitch that happens. As well as I'm sure there are ones that do not get posted for very good reasons.
The ones that do get through are going to upset someone no matter what you do. Eric/Rebecca I commend you once again for the work you do regarding this. I know that it is my small thread to TB as it is for others. I hope it doesn't shut down, but I certainly would not blame you if you did.
I personally think you do an excellent job at weeding. I've seen other forums where it gets so out of hand it's ridiculous.
It's easy to 'hide' behind a computer to vent or stir the pot, not so easy to always tell for sure what is what when you are trying to decide what to let through or not. I mean, come on, it's not like you have anything else to do all day, right? ; )
Best of luck with whatever you decide, cuz you know that no matter what you do it's going to upset someone : )

I second closing down the site. More than once I have posted well intended information regarding some crucial incidents and they were never posted. I guess the TREASURE BEACH WEB MASTERS only post what they feel like. Frankly the site has become very boring. I personally think that it needs a break. Even the picture site is lame. I guess the people have lost interest in Treasure Beach!!!

DO NOT CLOSE IT PLEASE!I will agree, not everything posted make sense. No one forces anyone to read anything. If webmaster post's something that one might think should not get posted,DO NOT read it..The great job they do of keeping this site going should be enough to appreciate.I wonder sometimes how "in the land" Rebecca and Eric finds time to read through all the messages, select or decide what's appropriate. They are human being's and they make mistakes like anyone else..please people,be considerate.............

Please do not close the forum. If we don't want to read the discussions about environmental or political issues, we don't have to.

It's easy enough to see from the thread titles which threads may be controversial and which threads are for announcements or reports from uncontroversial events.

I read all the discussions here, even the ones that become heated, because I believe the "Jamaica, no problem" motto does more harm than good. More silence won't help. It's been good to see growing attention to the issues that the people of Treasure Beach face -- the canal, building on the beaches, garbage, health care -- and it takes time and dialogue to create action. Let the dialogues continue!

To TB Net and Rebecca, Thankyou for the time and effort you put into this forum.

To the posters that want it CLOSED?? You have the choice of opening up the forum.. If you don`t like it ..don`t look! What would be the point of closing the only link we have to Treasure Beach from "farrin"?

I look forward to the pictures and updates.. Smurf`s Cafe.. The Children`s Party etc.

There are some threads and postings I don`t even go into, I see the name of the poster and know it is going to be a longwinded " I love to hear myself talk" variety.

My point is, you have a choice. If you no longer open up Treasure Beach.net.. It will be "Closed" to you!

This is the only forum/message board I have ever been a part of that does not require registration.

Perhaps simply requiring that individuals who wish to post register a single username would help?

I think it would be a mistake to shut it down. I, as a tourist, really look forward to it.

The only time there's no controversy is when we're dead. No more arguments then...I think. To close this forum down because people disagree with each other is illadvised. Human progress, and democracy, always benefits from debate and ,yes, shouting in the public square (example ancient Greece). The difference here is that our "square" is the Internet, where anonymity emboldens us to post anything allowed by the Webmaster(s).

While I do not necessarily agree with everything TBNet does, having this forum is a far cry from pre TBNet days. Have we forgotten the desperate pleas for information on this forum during critical times in the not too distant past? Hello?

Since we all would like to have the forum going, then the least we can do is be respectful, ok? In the long run it will be webmasters' decision. If we refuse then I will say it again....CLOSE IT DOWN! Every topic has become controversial so one doesnt know which ones to read, as some of you suggest.

To all the peeps that make this board possible, Merry Christmas to you & yours and may you have safe & secure Happy New Year in 2010!

Thanks for all you do by keeping this site running and informing locals and visitors of all the "happenings" in and around Treasure Beach. Without you we would be lost. Without you we would wish we had you back on our computer screens and turn back the clocks to when this site was still up and running.

To all the people who wish this site would close down please find another site to vent on. Its like the T.V. or radio people, if you don't like the station change it and move on. If you don't care for this site there are another trillion or so sites you can go to, please do, thank you, bye bye, don't come back!

This site has more meaning to more people than you could ever realize. Keep up the GREAT work Rebecca/Eric and don't forget there are a whole heap of people who are very greatful and depend on you guys for keeping the vibe alive.

Bless,

- True North

Poor me. What I gwine do with my hot air if TBNet was to close down? No rude replies please.

Who would want to see a free and widely read communication point for TB closed?

As in detective work, look who would benefit the most from keeping some things away from the light.

As said before, if you don't like serious reasoning and controversial discussions; don't read those threads.

Thanks Eric and Rebecca.

Why close it down????? To make a few people "happy"............or more like a whole lot of us "unhappy". I look on this site almost everyday even tho most of the time i am a silent observer, yes there is not much in the picture section at the moment but this is due to the fact that alot of us now keep in touch through the Facebook site and share our photos there. But when Rebecca puts photos on of those beautiful sunsets ,local events and keeps us informed on whats going on in TB its great!!!!
I for one would be lost without this site, i love it. I appreiciate what the whole team do so that we can be kept informed because they dont have to!!!!! Thanks TB net x

If all you people who are complaining about reading too much negative stuff here don't like what you are reading, then STOP READING the forum. It is your choice. I would be willing to bet many of the people whose words sound like nothing but moaning and complaining are saying what they say because they love Treasure Beach and want it to get better instead of getting worse like Negril. Maybe things are not expressed as nicely as they could be but that's life. Leave things up to Rebecca and Eric to make edits if they believe they are necessary.

As someone mentioned earlier in the thread, things happen in Treaure Beach and surrounding districts that outsiders need to know.Closing the site would obviously hinder knowledge of such events. Recently there was a donation of 12 water tanks in the Lewis Town area and Mr. Bowl Moxam was kind enough to mention it. Good job Bowl. I think the webmasters have the power to monitor closely, all incoming comments on the site, as to avoid further "CASS, CASS". Peace and Love Treasure Beach (but uno know sey a jus a certain type a try fi mash up di ting, right). To the webmasters please do not let the FEW win.

This seems to me to be a controversy without reality. Why would you "close down" a site because it annoys someone. The suggestion that it be closed because there is controversy makes no sense. If it closes down there isn't any communication, positive or negative. The managers are doing great work keeping it basically civil and related to actual treasure beach matters. The solution? Don't read what annoys. You're angry? Punish everyone? Darn, I'm an American progressive. I'm angry all the time, but can't close congress.

Are you all really serious??????

What kind of fantasy land you all have concoct in your brains.??

Fact- Negativity exist and will forever, it is in our homes, churches and our communities. Its not going anywhere my people. Deal with it. Thats what we must do.

Who likes negativity.I know I don't, I don't think anyone with even the the brain size of a pea likes it.I wish the world was perfect, but I would be living on a different planet if I ever think for a mili second that every single thing in life was POSITIVE. Deal with it is what we must do.

I dont want to see this board shut down either, granted the site will still be here, I dont think the owners would shut down the entire site. However, if they so decide to shut it down, so what.... life goes on folks.

I am sure in all our lives we have lost something we cherished, I know I have lost many.... the amount stores, restaurants, clubs, and other mementos that have been shut down or lost for whatever reason..... life must go on, like it or not. Don't get too sentimental over things. Especially if you all have no control over it my people. Deal with it is what we must do.

Why would anyone want to close this forum.
It is a place to post "opinions" let alone keeping everyone updated with what is happening (good and bad) in TB.
No person is forced to come to this forum. It is done of your own free will.
I agree that it should be monitored for hateful, and disrespectful speech, and the monitors has the RIGHT to determine this.
In my "opinion" this is "free speech" at its best !!
BIG UP to Eric and Rebecca !!!

Well said MikeyMike-

What's the big deal?
Who think it should be closed then just don't go there.
Good example -
I hate porn .. so I don't go on the site.
If I want it closed down - Yes but others want it too so big deal - it doesn't affect me because I just don't visit it.

(Late to the table as usual ...)

The idea of shutting down the forum because a few people aren't happy with it seems crazy. From the responses here, many more people love and appreciate the forum than those who are calling for its shut-down.

There are certain stores where I don't shop because I don't like their style or the merchandise they offer. Should those stores close down simply because I don't care for them? Of course not. They have a client base that is perfectly happy with the things they sell. The same is true for the forum. Those of us who like the forum shouldn't lose it simply because a few people don't care for it.

As "Reality" said, if you don't want to read the postings, don't read them. You can get lots of other information from TB.net without every clicking on the forum. Leave the forum for those of us who enjoy and value it.

One person early in this strand complained that people like to talk here but no one does anything. Maybe that's true, maybe it's not. One way to change that could be for that person to start taking action him- or herself. I agree that change won't come simply from posting comments on the forum, but if this is the place for like-minded people to find each other and start working together, that sounds like an excellent use of the forum to me.

The rest are observations, encouragements and advise on keeping the Treasure intact and shining.

No way! Don't close this site pleeease! It's a vital way of keeping in touch and extreemly interesting! With a open forum there will always be happy tales sad tales and people that moan and like to stress! Sometimes a moan is good as other people can help the situation or comisserate. A forum is all about letting different views accross , debating a sharing. Woulfd it not be boring to not discuss things and share our views? Well I speak on behalf of a number of people and we think it should stay! For good!
If you don't like different opinions don't log into a forum! Simple as......
So stop complaining about the forum, it should stay .
