Someone asked a while ago about what was happening at New Year's Eve. I saw a poster yesterday for Jack Sprat.

The entertainers are Kiprich, Romaine Virgo, Sophia Squire and Jah Cure. The cost for a pre-sold ticket is $600 JA.

Jah Cure - a convicted rapist. Good choice!

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of page Link to this message  By maur on Thursday, December 10, 2009 - 03:46 pm: Edit Post

Jah Cure is a convicted rapist, but he did pay his debt to society. He served his time as controversial as the verdict was.
If we were to stop support of people in our society that have been found guilty of something, then we possibly will have to stop functioning as human beings.

I am not in agreement of a rapist or their actions, but the man was punished and since then have not been in any trouble.

He is a talented artist and should be noted as such. Let us not forget that he did not pay off anyone [edited by TB.Net], but I guarantee that almost all, still listens to the very talented Michael Jackson's music.

I do detest the fact that there is a possibility that this man raped someone, but the fact still remains that according TO LAW, he was punished and should now go through the re-habilation process.

While we want to boycott Jah Cure, let us think of all the artists that are somehow responsible with their violent lyrics, for many deaths and confrontations indirectly caused by their actions on stage. Why dont we then turn off the radio stations and TV stations that plays their music and videos. If we did that, there would be no more radio or TV to listen to or watch.
Just a thought.

In most civil societies rapists & predators are kept away from children not glorified and paid to perform for them; who is watching out for them?

Don't judge a man or feel that you are better than someone else. If you do that you will become 'vain and bitter'.
Remember 2 thieves were crucified with Christ and what did one say - "Remember me when though goest into Paradise".
He was saved in the nick of time. No one is perfect - afterall. Everyone deserves a second chance or even a third etc.

Hmmm, just thinking off the top of my head I can think of several popular artists who have been embroiled in controversy and are still popular and certainly glorified in the American society.

Michaal Jackson, R. Kelly, Mike Tyson, . . .

Maur,

In Canada we DO boycott artists that promote hatred and insite violence.. Buju Banton, Elephant Man etc.. There are still HUNDREDS of artists to listen to. Artists like Luciano, Bob Marley and countless other conscious musicians, whose music uplifts the spirit and promote peace and love.

Jah Cure's lyrics all seem pretty positive and uplifting. If I remember correct one of his first bigger hits did have something to the effect "I swear I am a changed/better man"

Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.

THere are a whole lot of artist in JA promoting the whole gangsta and gully gaza garbage and there are a whole lot who burn fire pon homosexuals which is what gets alot of Americans and Canadians up in arms and boycotting which is their right as they have a different view. Jah Cure to my knowledge has no hateful or violent lyrics and as Maur said, served the time though many say he never even did the crime.

There is a difference here. Those artistes you are referring to DJ were using negative lyrics against gays. This young man was alleged to have committed a rape and served his time in prison. He has the gift to sing - does this mean that he should only sing in his shower? I don't believe so - he should make a good messenger for the youths especially his song about "Prison a nuh bed a rose". He needs a second chance.

Those of us who are condemning the man needs to go back to the Good Book. Everything is there.
Imagine David was a man after God's Heart and he was a murderer. There was also Moses who killed a man and was the one who lead the Israelites out of slavery and received the 10 commandments. There was Saul (Paul) who was the writer of the Epistles who used to persecute christians.
In other words, no one is irredeemable. Everyone has some good in us, even it's a murderer.
I believe this young man has a lot of good messages in his song. His song about "Prison a Nuh Bed a Rose", he lived and experienced it so he can truly sing about it.
Who would be the best person to sing to the youths - but someone who has been there.

Just to clarify.. my reference to maurs posting was in regard to the statement"we would have nothing to hear or watch" Nothing against Jah Cures lyrics, just a point that there are many, many positive artists.

To Observation: While Michael Jackson will always be known as an amazing performer and after his death it became obvious he was taken advantage of by many, the accusations of him being a pedophile made him seem beyond creepy to millions of people. I know people who would listen to his music but would never have allowed their children near him without being supervised. Even though R. Kelly's music is popular, it is mainly so with the lower end of society. Mike Tyson's popularity disappeared ages ago.

Jah Cure's music may be wonderful. Knowing he is a convicted rapist, I do not think he is an appropriate entertainer for a family setting.

I also feel any entertainer who promotes hatred against a group of people such as gays should be boycotted.

Just another note side of the story:
here is a link to Jah Cure's interview while he was incarcerated.

It might be hypocritical but people want their entertainers and sports figures to lead their lives by example. Tiger Woods has already started to lose his sponsorships maybe for what he did or maybe for refusing to admit what he did. No one is without sin, but people don't like sinners to pretend they are blameless. People who are too big to apologize are really very small people.

A convicted rapist on a very controversial verdict and in many eyes still believe he was innocent.

Either way, he served his time and deserves a second chance.

While we are on the topic of Family setting:
New Years eve celebration at Jack Sprat's.
Family setting? Let's see!
Consuming a large amount of alchohol, and how do we establish the criteria for those attending?

How many rapists might be in attendance?
How many anti-gays might be in attendance?
How many alchoholics might be in attendance?

Once again, we cannot boycott one and not boycott all. The issue again, is that we have a justice system, he was convicted, punished and now he is putting his life back together and promoting the right ideas. This is called remorse and intent to contribute positively to society even after making a mistake or (convicted of something he did not do). Either way he deserves as much of a chance as anyone else out there that may have done some wrong in their past and is given so many more chances.

Jack Sprat can choose to have anyone entertain there as may any other entertainment spots. That is their right. People may choose to attend or not. That is their right. It is not like someone is inviting Jah Cure into your home. If so that would be your right to let him in or not.

i think if you don't like who's going to perform you all have the choice of staying at home or going some where else.you people always seek out the worst side of everything.most people seem to have forgotten about that side of the cure and are enjoying his great music.give him a chance!!!!

I enjoy Jah Cure's music and since I will be in Treasure Beach for New Years Eve, I plan to go to Jack Sprat to enjoy his music.

My two cents (better late then never)
Jah Cure was convicted and served this time and has NOT comitted another offense. Therefore, he is FREE to choose what he does for a honest living !!
Secondly, it is the RIGHT of the public to choose if they want to support him in his choosen career !! Some will some will not !!!
ONE LOVE !!
Mike

I just want to make it very very clear the reason Jah Cure is not able to make it to Jack Sprat on NYE is due to a prior commitment and in no way had or has anything to do with comments written on this site.

If you notice, none of the original artists whom were named will be coming. Many artists are in great demand on NYE and schedules change to accommodate.

Jack Sprat didn't have signed contracts with the entertainers originally promised? This seems unusual especially since the owner is a sophisticated business person. I was looking forward to seeing the original lineup - including Jah Cure. I will probably still go and hope the entertainment will be good even though I am disappointed.

Sorry "happy new year", it has been a long standing personal tradition for me to stay in on NYE and go to bed early.

Maybe someone else attended and can post pics.
