Do the route taxis run on New Year's Day?

Good day, TB community! I hope someone can help me make a decision.

I have stayed in Billy's Bay before, but I took a taxi from the airport and had a friend drive me back to MBJ. Others who were staying at the Irie Rest took the route taxi, and as a result they had much more money left over to extend their stay and enjoy themselves with tours and such.

Flights out of MBJ are cheapest on 1Jan, but I'm concerned that the route taxi may not run that day. If that's the case, I'd be better off to fly out a on different day, even if the flight is more expensive.

Could someone advise me please?

The first question that comes to mind is have you travelled in route taxis for more than just the trip to Black River or Junction?

Keep in mind that they're are much slower since they go from city to city rather than direct to airport and you'll be waiting with all your gear in a few bus parks, they do not have much room for luggage, and are not always driven by the safest of drivers.

On the other hand, if you are up for adventure and have more time than money, go for it.

As for whether they run on Jan 1, I'll let others who are more knowledgeable answer that one.

Good luck.

When I stayed at Irie Rest Lennie gave a very good rate for round trip to and from the air port to his guest. Check with him.

Thanks, Eric! No, I haven't done much route taxi travel. I appreciate your pointing these aspects out to me. How many times in my life have I said "I wish someone had told me _______ !"

So far I still have more time than money ... and I'm continuing to evaluate how much adventure I'm up for.

So I'd still like to know whether the route taxis run on NY day.

Thanks all!

My guess is that they won't run that day (didn't when I lived there), but hopefully someone with more current knowledge will respond.

If there are some route taxis running on New Years day, it will not be many, which means your trip will take alot longer (it will be a long trip on a normal day).
I would advise against it on New Years day.
ONE LOVE !!

I'd be afraid of a route taxi driver that wasn't 100% sober.

The route taxis would be running in the larger cities, but the further into the country you go the less likely you will be to find taxis running. I would guess it would be a challenge to get from Black River to Treasure Beach on the holiday.

All excellent points. Thank you so much.

It just occurred to me that I'd need to make sure *I* didn't drink much New Year's Eve.

Then my thoughts wandered to a long trip on NY Day ... crammed into a taxi with several other passengers ... somewhere in the hangover recovery cycle ... not so appealing!

Much more thinking to do before I book my flight, I guess!

Thanks again, everyone.
