Christmas comin'. Do we remember the good ole Christmas Days? Those were the days when, from early in the day, a few of us would gather at one house. There we toasted over a few Stripes, J Wray and his Nephew, a little Wincarnis, etc. We may have even brushed off a slice o' cake.

Then we would move on to the next house, added one or two people to the group, and moved on to the next neighbour. So as the day wore on, we kept repeating the cycle of visiting, wishing each other Merry Christmas, and knocking back a few drinks.

By mid-afternoon, things started getting better. All that imbibing and walking really worked up an appetite, and now it would be dinner time. Oh bwoy, curry goat, beef, chicken, fish, cake, and sorrel, you name it. People never fraid fi cook and offer back den; an' we never fraid fi eat neither. We carried on like that all day until we visited every house. At the end of the day, most of us would end up at one of the local "water hole" and believe you me, it was a day well spent. Those were good times; fish was plentiful; a dollar was a dollar, everyone was included, and everyone was roots.

I spent Christmas in TB a few years ago and none of what I just described happened. It was just like any other day. Bwoy..., really wish we coulda bring back dem days.

Best place in the world to be for Christmas is Jamaica. We might have never had any Santa Claus, but the feeling and spirit of Christmas in Jamaica is like no where else.

Those days are gone GBB.
