Apart from David Spring in Great Bay, are there any other springs in Treasure Beach that has/had potable water? I know there was another spring just west of David's, and just north of Aunty Nana's pond but I don't remember the name. It ran out of a cave and settled into a small pool that used to harbor alligators and turtles.
As far as I can remember, there was David's spring and Salt spring hole which was the spring across from the well.Don't know how correct this info is though.
Does anyone know if the names David and Salt Spring had any association to the district of Gt. Bay?
Many older maps show Billy's Bay as Black Spring, and there is a very old well -- before we built our Villa Hikaru in 1972, halfway up the beach to Rainbow Tree. It was slightly saline but quite potable fresh water, well-lined with stone and maybe 20 feet deep -- that is, before Hurricane Ivan scoured 15 yards off that section of beach, leaving it looking rather more like a watchtower than a spring!
I am guessing that someone by the name of David owned the property as in the good ole days property was simply named after the owner. As for Salt Spring, it is actually brackish, and thus the prefix salt. My interest is in learning if any other springs exist in TB. I've seen mention of a place named Black Spring, and wonder if it also has an actual spring. Give thanks.
I heard that a river once ran through Great Bay but was blocked up by the Arawaks in the days gone by. Maybe this is the reason for all the springs in and around the area.
