This place was awesome! It was very peaceful and beautiful. I hear there is a natural spring somewhere back here. I'd like to see it on our next trip. We did not go swimming, the undercurrent was so strong. Just standing ankle deep in the water we could feel the pull. When we returned back to Great Bay everyone knew we ventured backseaside and wanted to hear about it. The views were amazing.
How buying a property with this view to look at every morning with a cup of coffee in hand. Would love it!
Love the pics JeannieB. You're probably speaking of David's Spring at the foot of the Great Bay hill. Cow cave is also in the general vicinity. Back Seaside's always held a sense of mystery for most of us (especially as kids), and you were wise not to go swimming there.
This is beautiful, Jeanie. What does 'backseaside' mean? Where is this and how can I get there when I'm in TB next week?
Exactly where is this? How do you get there?
It was a hike past Great Bay village. There is a road that dead ends at the edge of Great Bay. Just keep on going till you see a few palm trees on a hilltop, go past them and you can see the sea. There are a few goat paths to follow. People were real friendly giving directions and letting us walk through their yard. We were in a large group, I wouldn't go back their by myself, although I am sure it's safe, it did feel a bit eerie. Take a local guide or go in a group.
Andrew at Jake's took us on a bike and hike to Backseaside Bay. We rode the bikes just past Great Bay via an alligator on the road by Taino Cove and then we hit the trail. We were told that the land is privately owned and undeveloped. The wild life was great. There were wild goats on the rocks and all kinds of birds. I do remember hopping a fence and following a path through the tall grass for about 1-2 miles before getting to the bay. Unfortunately I can't give exact directions. My recommendation is to get a guide, its well worth it.
Again, I thank the Gilpin family for allowing this, one of the last of what was to remain just so.
Let's hope so turey.... let's hope so. JeannieB, did you see the windmill? I remember when it was being built, and wonder if it's still there.
If anyone know of property with this view please post it here. This is beautiful.
My husband and I are thinking of residing in Treasure Beach when we retire.
We would like a place to build or already built but this view is one reason we would really, really like seeing we love the ocean.
Do not have to be right by the ocean but must have that view.BEAUTIFUL.
We have live in apartments after apartments with just parking lots and soon we would love to see and feel the ocean breeze, look at the sky and enjoy the rest of our lives living in peace and tranquility.
Thanks.
.
Villa Hikaru has a fantastic view. Take a look at www.villahikaru.com

You saw a gator by the pond? I have heard they are there but never saw one. Makes me double think getting the seeds out of the pancakes now.
JeannieB, if it's so safe and the people are friendly as you mentioned, why should we go in a group? How eerie was it though?
It's just a vast open space out there. There are no people around for a long ways. If something were to happen, it'd be a while before someone found you. For instance, if you fell and needed help you'd be [edited by TB.Net], it is quite a hike. The ocean current is very strong on this side of the bluff, we were told not to go swimming. We sat down at the edge of the water and it pulled at us so strongly we got out and stood. It was still strong enough it could knock you down. I guess I just try to think safe, anyone from anywhere could be out there, you never know. Better to be safe than sorry. I guess the eeriness is just from the isolated feel of the area. It is beautiful though!
One other thing, it is very windy out here so if you have your camera protect it because the sand blows very hard and will get in your camera.
It was a 400 lb female only a mother could love. I thought about it when I went up to the pond to take the picture I posted earlier.
After this encounter we proceeded to ride to Great Bay and then hike. It wasn't eerie but was actually "Irie" beautiful wilderness.
That's crazy Harpomarc! It blends into the pavement pretty good too. Gonna have to watch out a bit more for the crocs.
Wish we had a zoo for such creatures.
TBC: Why must we lock up animals in zoos? They don't lock us up in zoos.
Just remember folks, "back seaside" is private property and should be respected as such.
I want to remind everyone that Backseaside and the Bluff are private property. It is always in your best interest to get permission from the owners to go over there. Guided tours are NOT permitted. I would contact the owners personally and ask them before you go. They will always say yes but appreciate being asked.
Just for the record the croc was moved to a nature preserve in Parotee. An official was called as soon as the croc was secured and moved to a safe area where it was kept cool and doused with water by one of the local farmers. Apparently the females go to Black River to breed and come over to Great pond to lay their eggs to keep the males from eating them. Or at least that is what was told to us. I did overhear someone say "it tastes like chicken" but I think they were overridden.
Who owns this beautiful property?
Please respect that "Back Seaside" is private property and that you are trespassing without the owners permission
Thanks Jeannieb and as you stated, "Crocs"...Ja has crocs but I don't believe there are gators-Correct me if I'm wrong.
Thanks for letting us know that the Bluff and Backseaside are private property. I will ask the owners from now on.
Alice - so far as I am aware Jamaica has only one croc - the caiman - and I have heard those that know call the caiman a fish eating crocodile. Often Jamaicans refer to them as alligators - hence Alligator Pond. They are salt water tolerant hence their breeding journies between B River and Pedro Great Pond. I have actually seen them out at sea when fishing - scary!
I hope ur meat it not the first they eat, LAN when the cros roam the streets.
First time I'm learning Back Seaside is Private Property. {edited by TBNet}
Hi curious, If you didn't know that then I have one for you: Did you know that the Great Bay Seaside is itself private property? It is owned by the same folks who own backseaside. Ask the older residents if you think I'm jesting. Things are not always what they seem.
Dont want to differ from the original thread ,but must respond to (Miss Mi Yard)Great Bay beach is public someone own the little piece of land below the Gas Station, wish i could\ve tell you the story about that piece of land and how the Bluff was won if you know what i mean.
