Trying a T'ing

Treasure Beach Forum: TB Runnin's: Trying a T'ing

A suggestion was recently made to TB.Net if a post contains one line, a phrase or a word which is considered by TB.Net to not be within the guidelines we should still approve the message and just delete out the part which we feel is not within the guidelines. We think this is a good suggestion and will "try a t'ing". What do you think?

I think this is a great idea ... but I wonder if it will make a lot more work for our webmasters?

I also agree 100%
One of the most hurtful thing is to write a long
article only to not seeing it posted. Just because
one simple line might be stepping on somebody's toe.
I had sometime ago ask Rebecca if TB.Net. could not edit the postings. So please "try a thing" and we will love you more.

If you do this TB.net a lot of people could add their comments to many strings including the one about the sports park.

What a great idea. To indicate the offending, censored words, all the webmaster has to do is to indicate any offenses by inserting elipses in the place of the offenses. Like this:

As Bowl so well puts it:
One of the most hurtful thing is to write a long
article only to not seeing it posted. Just because
one simple line might be stepping on somebody's toe.

It sounds acceptable, however deleting one word could change the whole interpretation, of the post, perhaps putting a standard place holder,
eg: #### or @@@@ instead of the actual word(S)
would clue the reader to the fact that this was an edited post, and might not be construed as outright censorship

The standard, acceptable way of indicating a word or phase that is cut is to use elipses, like this:

Old Joe, one might say, is a...fellow.

I love the way the webmaster, in my post above, made the effort, but edited more than he needed to edit. What is the problem, for heaven's sake, that he has to delete my SUGGESTION (elipses) for censoring? I trust THIS won't be censored?

Pained by Censorship:

We implemented our idea and edited out the personal insult that was contained in your posting from Sept 16. Thus the {edited by TBNet} text that appears in it.

I had someone try to post something this weekend and we never got it. Is anyone else having this problem?

How can you tell if things were missed or purposely not posted? I write things all the time that don't get posted. That is the problem with the old system. I posted a week ago and see nothing.

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of page Link to this message  By TBNet on Monday, September 21, 2009 - 06:14 pm: Edit Post

From this point going forward, 99% of the messages we get should be posted. They may be edited, but they will be posted.

Those which won't be posted are ones which have a NAME that is over the guidelines. (One example would be "Rebecca is a liar"). We cannot change the name given to posts. If the name is over the top, the message won't be approved.

Its also possible that we made a mistake and deleted it by accident. Being human, we've done it before and, unfortunately, will probably do it again.

Please note that its been our experience that most of the time when people don't see their message its because they did not post it correctly. If you don't see this message at the end of posting, then it has not been sent to us: "Message Submitted to Queue"

Hope this helps.

Webmaster: but there WAS no personal insult. I deliberately used elipses to show where one MIGHT have been, to give a lucid example. Your rules of censorship, I reluctantly say, boggle the mind. There was no actual insult, no personal insult, in my example with the elipses. Maddening, and again, alas, random, the seemingly arbitrary censorship.
