...a friend invited me to dine at an estate. I believe he was checking the daughter.

After lunch, stupified by the food and drink and intoxicated with self importance, the owner indicated some resting workers and opined: "Look at those damned lazy fellows, they have no enthousiasm".

Big mouth here could not resist pointing out that enthousiasm meant to be filled with God.

You can imagine the deathly silence. I was never invited back.

That poor Bucky Massa, he sacrificed his chance at enthousiasm for petty tyrany and gross predjudice.

You?

Me?

Turey, you are just like me: don't know when to shut up. On the other hand, having money, class and formal education does not mean "smarts or common sense". Yuh put di man just where he belongs, in the field. Walk good.

Turey, pardon me again..as a Johnny come lately, a have been perusing the posts, and I am curious as to the intent of this one. Can you elucidate?
By the way, enthusiasm does not really mean filled with God, it is derived from s Greek word which meant inspired by a god. Maybe in the instant case the men were filled with the god of indolence!! Har!har!

Hi CR, my intent was to illustrate the artificial relationship between workers and management that I found to be abusive in this case. In truth, a remnant of plantation arrangements. Entitlement and the false assumption of superiority are a few of the attitudes that a National Psychoanalysis would face and untangle. Did anyone read Prof Freddy Hicklings suggestion in the Gleaner a few weeks ago?

Inspire has it's root in the Indo European 'spies' or 'pies' in imitation of the sound of breathing or blowing out. The Greeks use 'theopneustos' or God Breathed. As in Genesis 2:7 when God breathed the breath of life into man. In-Theos-I-Am, breathed by the Infinite. Poets license CR, just bought it.

Sir turey, no need to get so deep into Etymology. Fact is enthusiasm as understood by the common man does not mean what you say it means. I think your remarks about the owner of the estate was intemperate, and betrays an underlying resentment of people who YOU think, think they are entitled. The comment alone does not warrant such a harsh assessment of your host!! Every man is entitled to think whatever he will of himself.
Incidentally, I am not Johnny come lately to TB..to TBNet. I am from TB, but not in TB..yet. Another minor correction..Poetic licence
Bless.
