I have a friend that would say "everything" and leave it at that, but I am looking more specific answers. I think we should try to identify what is so special about this little hamlet before we can decide how to go about protecting it.

So let us hear your answers.

I'm not sure if we are special or just different. Treasure Beach offers a culture that developed from within because of relative geographical isolation, with very little access to telephone, TV, or transportation. For years, much of the older generations had little interaction with the outside except for occasioanl forays to take care of necessary medical or business concerns. As a result, TB was able to forge its own identity, which is only now being appreciated as everywhere else slowly morph into more of the same (i.e.been there done that).

Not withstanding the contankerous debate we have on this site at times, we are an easy going crowd, often with a "soon come" mentality, happy to share a Red Stripe, talk a little politricks, and eager to do a favour (lately that has come to mean for a "smalls"). There is no crime rate to speak of in a place where everbody seems to know everbody else. You want a place to kick back and forget the rat race? Then come to Treasure Beach! There's much more, but that's my little nut shell. Blessings.

The people, especially those who are from TB and also their families, are the best part of Treasure Beach.

The next best part is the relatively unspoiled environment, but that will quickly go the way of the dinosaur unless we protect it.

The weather is a lot better than many other places in Jamaica. I know we often need more rain but a relatively dry climate is good for tourism.

I love the people! We have made a few friends over the years and we are happy we can go on vacation and just be ourselves. The residents of Treasure Beach are happy to give, help, share, reason...whatever it might be. It reminds me of home, just honest, hardworking people willing to do anything for another person. Being near the sea is nice too, but I'd take the people over the sea anyday! I miss my friends in Great Bay.

Our sunny weather, our deserted beaches. The people, the people, the people.

The small size of the community and resulting safety of being in a place where everyone knows everyone.

Pond cakes and pretty birds on the ponds. Watching the Pelicans dive and the goats scramble along Pedro Bluff.

Full moon hikes, and dark sky night star gazing.

Flowers and funky night blooming cactus.

Good food, when the pocket is fat this can mean dinner at Jakes, or a pizza delivered by motorbike. If no money a run, callaloo deh bout.

When friends visit from afar, they have a range of choices whether it is tenting, cheap room or super nice villa or room.

If you need to have a day away, the fact that though we are isolated, we are not too far from waterfalls, crocodiles or anything else Jamaica has to offer.

Less people begging/trying to rip you off than in Mo Bay, Ochi etc

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of page Link to this message  By turey on Sunday, August 09, 2009 - 01:45 pm: Edit Post

I live in relative safety and comfort.

Good food is a walk down the hill, police, fire and ambulance, a phone call away.

I accept that most neighbours prefer to be isolated. It did take will power to not nod or say "morning" or "howdidoo".

Winter does not trouble me to that.

Work is available, no one should be hungry or shelterless.

Go figure why I look forward to coming to TB.

it is very calm and peaceful, just what you need if you want to relax. Beaches are lovely and not too busy and touristy. Also you feel safe walking the streets knowing that you will not be harrassed fom beggers. The locals are friendly and will happily sit and chat to tell you more about jamaica and will also give a friendly smile or hello. Last but not least the weather is great, the jamaican accents and patois is so nice to hear and the food is just fresh and yummy.

It would be easier for me to say what I DO NOT like about TB.
And that is, that there is no bank in the community.
And that is such a SMALL price to pay for ALL of the other WONDERFUL things about TB !!!!
TB FOREVER !!!!!!!!!
ONE LOVE !!
Mike

The people of Treasure Beach are the ones who make it special. I have never been made to feel so welcome, so at home anywhere else I've traveled. People look out for one another, come to each other's aid, treat you like family even before they know your name.

And then, of course, the list goes on:

- beautiful beaches that I get to have almost completely to myself -- no crowds of half-drunk tourists as in some other areas ...

- I can walk safely -- especially important to me as a woman alone.

- Delicious food no matter where I go, and usually some excellent 'reasoning' to go along with the seasoning!

- Comfortable, relaxed atomosphere, no rush to get to the next entertainment, time to detox from work stress and really be at ease.

In short ... what's not to LOVE about Treasure Beach?

Coming to Tb is like going back 50 years to a simpler less complex time in life ... although it is changing rapidly as TB becomes more connected to the world .. I will miss that feeling when it's gone

It is very difficult to put it into words what the magic is of Treasure Beach! Upon arrival as the car rounds the corner down into TB I feel a sense of warmth that I have never experienced. When the day comes to leave and we exit the community I always cry.

I have to say first and formost its the people. People who welcome you into their hearts so easily that you instantly feel part of the community! From your first visit (IF YOU ARE ONE OF THOSE WHO "GET" TB) you will be hooked.

I want to say Thanks to the TB community for making me feel at home and even though I just returned to Cali yesterday - I am already planning another trip home to TB! SOON COME....

After our first visit to TB last Christmas things have not been the same in our family, all we think and talk about is when we can return! To see a community based spirit amoung genuine people is something I haven't seen in a long time. With all the bull**** in todays society TB offers a fresh look at a more natural way of life compared to city living and being part of the rat race. To wake up to sun, sea and fresh air along with fresh food, lovely people etc etc is paradise. PLEASE DON'T LET IT CHANGE

Thanks to all you farina for letting us see through your eyes.

This forum enables the feedback from the consumer of the product that some seem shy of inviting.

TB is great, it could be out of this world.

We feel cared about and cared for when we come to TB. So it's definitely the people. The next thing is the very rural nature of the community with little traffic and little noise.

The people. When my parents were looking for somewhere to build a beach house in 1969, all their friends tried to convince them to build on the north coast with it's white sand and blue sea. They asked my father why on earth he would want to build in Treasure Beach which was considered the back of nowhere in those days. His answer still stands today. Because of the people.

You can see every single star in the night sky as you listen to the lullaby of the waves soothing you to a point of stand still. Then the sea breeze brushes your ear and whispers the sweetest words you could ever dream of hearing. The night lullaby then lulls you to sleep. Upon the rising of the sun, the sky becomes a quilt of colours along the horizon, the ocean a mirror reflecting its beauty. And then the nightingales sweet voice says to you "Good Morning Love". How good it feels to be loved. Lets not forget old billy as he walks along with his kids as they frolic in the grass and remind us all of our childhood days. And for the briefest second we can say "Yes. This is what living is about. About seeing the world through the eyes of the world and not the eyes of man. About seeing nature as was created and not as man intended." And the trees, they nod respectfully, as if to say " Yes, this is what life truly is about".

That’s what I would say is special about Treasure Beach along side all the lovely people who it would seem don't know that you don't have to smile 24/7. There are other facial expressions guys :-)
