With recent talk of insider/outsider, I had a thought that was triggered by someone named "Nige". He mentioned that it was difficult to get the people of Great Bay together to do anything. I apologize to Nige for not finding the thread (I searched diligently before giving up).

I don't know if you are Mister Tatham's son or grandson (I recall the name Willy), but I remember "Missa Ted" fondly and with much respect. He spearheaded the founding of the Great Bay Fisherman's Co-Op which unfortunately was short lived. He also raised the funds and started a Sports Club right there by the ponside (auntie Nana pond)which didn't last too long either. The man integrated himself so fully, and was so embraced by the community, that I don't think anyone would even think of the word "outsider" when it comes to him.

Perhaps its your knowledge of these efforts that occasioned your comment, which I fully understand. As a Great Bay "bwoy" myself, I hear my peeps make similar comments all the time. I'm sure I have felt that way from time to time as well. I'm however hopeful that the time will come when I, and others like myself, will turn our attention homeward, and begin to contribute more to the district as Mr Ted once did.

Best Regards.

dont know what to say except, thank you, my dad was a special man, who truly loved this area, and always tried his best to help the community.
he recognized many years ago, that with the ingenuity and natural inteligence he found in the TB area that they were destined to go far. he was right, in the years since and still, people from this area go out into the world and are excellent ambassadors for our island as a whole

Nige,

I am an American married to some one from Great Bay. I have heard only the nicest things about your Dad.

Blue Marlin is a beautiful place.

Mr. Tatham was a beautiful person. He was a warm, humble and kind-hearted individual who did a lot for people- not seeking any form of recognition ("big-ups") in return. Thanks "greatbayboy"for recognising Mr. Tatham.

I have such fond memories of Mr. Tatham. He gave me a good education of the history of Treasure Beach dating back to the Tainos. I think of him often and miss his input especially in the engineering aspects of the community. I know he would have some good advice regarding the canal.

Mr. Tatham encouraged me and my business and for that I will always be grateful. I considered him a mentor and friend. He was an honorable man.

I concur with the sentiments expressed by "greatbaybway" and rebecca in regards to Mr Ted Tatham. If I recall well he became a resident of the Great Bay community about 1971 or '72 and immersed himself immediately into all aspects of the community's life. His desire was to see the community develop into a place that would be recognized not only locally but also globally.

Mr Tatham was a visionary who recognized the importance of education, experience, talent and recreation to the development, growth and success of a an individual's life and as such he sought always to encourage and inspire the people of Treasure Beach towards excellence.

Mr Tatham realized that the people of Great Bay needed a Fisherman's co-op through which the fisherfolks could purchase equipment at a reasonable price and also to vent their frustration and air their concerns and was instrumental in starting such an entity. Unfortunately this is now defunct.

An old adage state's "all work and no play make Jack a dull boy" and Mr Tatham was fully cognizant of the ingrained truth in this saying and became the driving force behind the birth of the Great Bay Sports' club in 1972. This club provided an outlet for the Youths of the community to showcase and develop their talents, learn and develop social skills, stay away from activities that could be deemed destructive, build self esteem, opened doors of opportunities that enhanced their lives and even find a spouse - I can remember at least one such case involving a cricketer.

For the people people of the community who would flock to the sports' ground to watch their "boys" it was a time of fun, socializing and just getting away from the house, routine and boredom. The value that Mr Tatham added to Great Bay is immeasureable and I say "hail the man, kudos Maas Ted". He is no longer with us but his memories will forever be with us and when the history of Great Bay is written the name of this wonderful man will be very prominent.

Willy I do remember you and your sisters very well and has always wondered at your whereaabout. I used to find so much joy watching your acrobatic water skiing. You can rest assured that the people of Great Bay has always embraced you and your family and fully accepted you as a part of us,bonafide yardies, outstanding citizens and community leaders of the wonderful community of Treasure Beach.
