Treasure Beach Foundation is proud and excited to announce the recipients of our new 2009 scholarships.

Anath Genus (Great Bay) receives a full scholarship to Hampton School.

anathgenus

This young lady has done an exemplary job both at Sandy Bank and on her GSATs. We were told she excels at whatever she puts her mind to, and she thrives in the face of difficulty and challenges. Her responses to our questions indicated she is interested in the environment and has the ability to contribute to the positive improvement of Treasure Beach.

Tamara Ricketts (Great Bay) is the recipient of a full scholarship to Black River High School.

tamararicketts

Tamara has a strong desire to succeed. Her two favorite subjects are language arts and mathematics. She is interested in becoming a pediatrician. Tamara’s responses showed a wonderful curiosity about the world—and a strong desire to make it better.

Shakera Smith (Sandy Bank) is awarded a full scholarship to Hampton School.

shakerasmith

She is described as a “delightful student who wants to perform at the highest at all times.” We were also told she “will always be the person who shares—be it knowledge, experience, adventures, or her lunch.” Shakera would like to meet such diverse people as Michael Phelps, Miley Cyrus, and Michelle Obama.

Bridget James (Billy’s Bay) is receiving a half scholarship to Black River High School.

bridgetjames

Bridget is a very positive student who sees academic advancement as the only way to reach her goals. She has been described as an excellent leader. He teachers have used such words as “articulate, reverent, and academic,” when describing her. It is clear Bridget has worked exceedingly hard to earn her scholarship.

Cydonie Charlton (Great Bay) has been awarded a half scholarship to Hampton School.

cydoniecharlton

Her teachers have told us Cydonie is “always willing to share to get the best out of others.” Cydonie’s favorite subject is mathematics because it “challenges her brain to think more than usual.” She describes herself as “a shy person with big dreams.”

group

We congratulate each and every scholarship recipient for doing such an outstanding job. We also congratulate all who have helped them attain this great honor: their families, their teachers, and their current and past school principals.

We also wish to express hearty thanks to everyone who has made these scholarships possible by their support of Treasure Beach Foundation. Whether you have offered a service to be included in the villa raffle package, made a donation, or bought a raffle ticket—you have truly made a meaningful difference in the life of a very promising young person.

Thank you!

Truly proud of all who got scholarships.
Our community will surely continue to encourage and support them as they hopefully move on to higher achievements.

Thanks to all who supported these young people and encouraged them in their studies, to those who contributed to the funding, as without those elements the chances of success are so much less.

Support our young .. they are precious treasures.

Once again congratulations to the teachers at Sandy Bank Primary School and of course to the Basic School as well, where most, if not all of these children got their foundation in learning. Congratulations to the parents as well who supported their children all the way, and still will be supporting through thick and thin. I am convinced that Sandy Bank Schools are among the best in the country with excellent teachers from former years until now. I have been a product of these institutions so I know what I am talking about.
To the students who are going on to high school -just stay focused and don't lose your vision. To those students who did not do as well as they would have liked, just remember lots of opportunities are out there so don't lose hope and just stay focused. I wish for these institutions continued success.
A big thanks to Karen Kennedy and her Foundation for the great assistance in these difficult times.

It's been a while since I read it so I may have the title slightly off, but if anyone doubts the value of these scholarships and the importance of helping as many as possible continue their eduction, I suggest Glasceta Honeygan's "Father Sleeps with the Mud Pies."

Literacy is the most revolutionary force on earth.

Tamara, I believe you're Tyrone's daughter and, if so, it was your grandmother who first taught me how to hold a pencil. She and Miss Jean used to teach me and my cousins under a tree in Miss Gatha's yard before we even started basic school. Now so many years later (many), it makes me proud to see you doing so excellent.

To Anath, it was only about three years ago I visited with your dad and we took some pictures sitting on the "climb over" by your house (I'm sure you've forgotten by now). I could hardly recognize your photo here.

Years from now the both of you, along with your fellow scholarship winners, will look back on this period of your lives with fond recall. My wish for all of you is that you'll make the best of your opportunities so that, when there are more years behind you than before you, you'll be able to look back and SMILE.

Congratulations to you , and to Miss Ebanks, for a job well done.
