Thank you for posting the pictures of the Canal. We have officially kicked off the huuricane season and what i am looking at is a disaster in the making. The present condition of the canal will only serve to make worst the probability of flooding in treasure beach in around that area. This is just unacceptable and the lack of urgency in getting this huge problem fixed will be a grave mistake and a disaster of unimaginable proportion should we experience a repeat of the magnitude of storms in recent past.

This is beyond a sore eye; this is careless planning, poor execution and great lack of concern for the citizens of this community. With mother nature being as unpredictable as she can be, one thing is very predictable and that is, Any storm surge will make its way deep into the mainland by way of this canal. I strongly believe we need to address this problem now with great intensity and accountability.

Thank you for keeping the subject current Nahor. This seems to me the most important of any topic being discussed, and it amazes me that the situation is allowed to exist without any URGENCY!

I'm not sure who is not viewing this situation as urgent other than the government agencies responsible.

Speaking for myself, since the flooding of Great Bay in 2005 I have taken and sent countless photos of the floods thru to the various stages of the canal's contruction and sent them to reporters from The Gleaner, The Observer, TV news stations, various government agencies and individuals. I know many many other community members have made numerous phone calls, visits, etc. to all the above mentioned. Once in a while a meeting was held by these government agencies to hear our concerns and inform us of their progress. I guess the current state of the canal tells you how effective their listening skills were.

I am extremely grateful for Ms. McCauley's support and activism shown for this situation as it seems, maybe now these agencies will listen. Then again - maybe not.

However, I believe everyone who was affected by or witnessed the flooding of Great Bay in 2005 has felt and continues to feel this is an urgent situation, especially since we have just entered another hurricane season.

Please let us know what you have done to make your voice heard or what more you feel we should do.

The few people that actually DO something about ghastly situations like this are not strongly backed by the community. One or two voices will not change this .. it needs a stronger and louder voice and energy.
Always amazes me how we can sit back and complain, yet offer nothing to help rectify a situation that could be disastrous, not to mention un-afordable.

It would be great if some of these concerns could be put in letters to the press and directly to NEPA. Gleaner is letters@gleanerjm.com and Observer is editorial@jamaicaobserver.com

New CEO of NEPA is Peter Knight - Peter.Knight@nepa.gov.jm

Rightly stated Rebecca. I am sure that you and many others in the community are doing all you can, and I commend you. My concern was not directed at the hard-working folk like yourself, but rather at the Governmental agencies who have made a bad situation worse, and who seem to be taking their sweet time doing nothing.
