Let us turn our negatives into positive vibes

I would ask if those writing on TB.Net, which positively is a good form of getting the news out in the area, that we start to talk about positive things.

The negative and unfortunate things that take place, I agree should be said, however, let us try and turn the negative into a positive.

There is a saying "if there is a problem and we cannot solve it, then we are part of the problem".

What happened to Judy and Lisa is very unfortunate. Are we going to wait to until more of this happens before we take steps to stop it?
About a year ago we attended a Tourist meeting at the Golf View Hotel in Mandeville. A Scottish Officer gave a long speach about PREVENTING crimes in the Tourist areas rather than waiting for them to happen. In a realtively small area such as ours, most of us are very aware of who the criminals are or are likely to be. Unfortunately, this attitude of the Scottish Officer does not seem to have materialized. Is there any way we can join together to deal with "prevention rather than cure"?

There has to be better policing done in the area. to do this, we can get in touch with the crime prevention authorities. They do not need your name.

There is one other point I would like to mention. People are constantly refferring to Treasure Beach and parts of Treasure Beach as "remote", "isolated" areas. Since Jamaica already has a reputation for crime words like the above are likely to frighten visitors. Could we be more positive in the use of our terms. In reality, nowhere from Treasure Beach to Fort Charles is remote, even remote-ish or isolated. Fort Charles is 15-20 minutes drive from the Black River Police Station and the Pedro Plains Police Station. What we have are Villages in Billy's Bay, Beacon, Frenchmans, Calabash Bay, and Great Bay.

For example, from Fort Charles Bay to Billy's Bay corner there are 20 houses/Villas/Guest Houses, with street lights.

Let us work together instead of individually. a lot of voices make more noise than one voice. The same could be said for getting water and our roads fixed.

I second Ms. Finlason's call for problem solving in addition to problem naming. I very much like the idea of crime prevention being a focus. Isn't there a new police chief coming to the TB area? Maybe this is something that could be discussed with him at a community meeting?

Finally, someone understands how to deal with Jamaican crime problems! Thank you Heart in Ja.

I will personally take on the task to find out who we can speak to.

I happen to be the Warden for The Canadain High Commission in this area. This means that I can take care of certain situations to do with Canadinas visiting or domiciled in the area. Of course, I have to be made aware of the problems/situations before I can deal with them.

Thanks for the proactive attitude Gladys.

I realize that I am abroad most of the time, but let me know how I can be of assistance and if I should speak and/or contact someone in particular.
