April 28, 2009 (Treasure Beach, St. Elizabeth): The Jakes Off Road Triathlon sponsored by Wata in association with Nature Valley was successfully held this weekend on April 26th, 2009. With twenty eight (28) teams and twenty nine (29) individuals adding up to over 100 participants , this year’s 14th Annual triathlon was the biggest race to date! All of the event’s proceeds, over J$100,000, go to BREDS: The Treasure Beach Foundation to assist in the development of the Treasure Beach Sports Park.

Athletes, spectators and sponsors filled up Jack Sprat Pizza and Seafood Restaurant as the triathlon participants crossed the finish line over a 3 hour period. The community turned out in large numbers to provide key products and prizes, volunteer their services or simply cheer on the athletes. Jamaican locals from all parts of the island, as well as international guests from around the world showed up to take part in the day’s festivities, and groups from some of Kingston and MoBay’s hottest fitness centres, including Shakti: Mind, Body Fitness and In Motion, rallied their troops who came to take their regular fitness regime to another level. The energy in the atmosphere was high and the vibe was nothing but positive.

Jason Henzel, Owner of Jake’s and Chairman of the Breds Foundation, was beaming during the prize giving ceremony when he thanked everyone for the enormous support and camaraderie that was given throughout the day and in the months leading up to the event. He was especially proud to award a brand new mountain bike to the 1st Place Individual from Treasure Beach. The winner, a young man named Lenroy Trenchfield 'Junior', took centre stage when he asked to say a few words to the crowd, and gave a heartfelt thank you to his sponsor.

Wisynco, the event’s main sponsor, provided Nature Valley granola bars, and kept everyone hydrated with Wata, Cranwata and Powerade beverages throughout the day. There were several awards given in the various categories, including grand prize weekend getaways from Island Outpost and Couples Swept Away.

Sounds like a great time. Sorry I wasn't in TB to catch it. Any photos of the event?

Wish I was a runner, wish I was there.

Is the last sponsor not The Mary Vinson Blackwell Foundation?

Special congratulations to Sharon Mcconnell-Feanny owner of Shakti Mind Body Fitness and owner of Shakti Home Villa here in Treasure Beach for her impressive 2nd place finish.

Wow, talk about practicing what you preach! Guess I better start taking some yoga classes.
