We're soon traveling to visit your community. I can't grasp the distance of treasure beach from bay to bay/district to district. Can anyone give me an idea of kilometers the way the bird flies?
Good day, all!
There's a scale on the Where to Stay maps that might help you. Its an approximation, of course.
http://treasurebeach.net/guide/ws/
I google mapped the walk from Great Bay to Calabash Bay and it was 1.63 miles. "Close" to the way the bird flies. This was mapping the short cuts that we walk to get from point A to B. Some are through the feild and a small path through some bush past Taino Cove. Google Map is awesome! It does make it seem farther than it really is though.
These are the exact distances from each bay on the ground.
Treasure Beach consists of 5 bays: Great Bay, Calabash Bay, Frenchman's Bay,
Billy's Bay and Fort Charles Bay.
The distances betweeen each bay is as follows:
From The main road down to Great Bay Beach........................ 2.6km
From the main road at Great Bay to Calabash Bay.................. 2.3km
From Calabash Bay to Frenchman's Bay ...................................1km
From Frenchman's Bay to Billy's Bay .....................................1.9km
From Billy's Bay to Button Bay Beach Getaway .........................3km
From Button Bay Beach Getaway to Fort Charles Bay .............1.9km
So how accurate is the scale on our map then? Does it need an update?
The distances are very accurate as it was done on the odometer in he car.
Thanks, TBNet & buttonbay! This is exactly what I was looking for.
My arithmetic approximates the distance traveling the main road from Great Bay to Fort Charles Bay at 10km/6.5mi, then?
TBNet, you say there are short cuts. Is it possible to walk the shore line up the bays, within reason?
I suppose what I'd like to know is how reasonable is it to take a full days hike and explore the FULL south coast line of treasure beach without transportation? We're staying in Great Bay close to the beach.
Thanks for all the information!
