Hiking or Biking in Treasure Beach?

Where are the best places to hike in Treasure Beach? Also, are there bike rentals and good places to ride? We are bringing teenagers, and although my idea of a good time is doing "nothing", I need a plan B - one that will hopefully wear them out...

Ask for Andrew at Jake's. He has many mountain bikes in very good condition and provides helmets as well. He will also be your guide. We went on a bike and hike tour to Great Bay and beyond which included a hike to secluded beaches with wild goats and a view of Lovers Leap and an adventure with a 400lb., 8 ft. alligator in the road. He can also take you in the other direction to Fort Charles Bay and up into the hills to complete a very picturesque loop of the Treasure Beach area.

The riding is not too challenging but can be if you choose to go to the mountains. My wife and I are avid cyclists doing about 5000 miles of competitive riding per year and highly recommend taking Andrew's tours.

Enjoy

Thanks Harpomarc, that sounds like just the ticket! As a mom who has done zero miles in the last few years, you can't imagine how impressive your and your wife's mileage sounds! Hopefully it will not be too challenging, as you say. Thanks for the info.

I am looking at the TB map, does anyone know if it is possible to hike the coastline from one end to the other, or are there places that are impassible?

You can walk the coastline most places, with occassional detours by road around rocky points or hotels. Just meander along and explore, that's half the fun. There are plenty of places along the way to stop for a cool drink and ask the local people directions. Everyone is very friendly and helpful. Enjoy!

Hello Need Direction!
After you leave the kids with Andy for their day of biking I suggest the following walk:

Take the road up to Tiano Cove and get to the bar in the back overlooking the beach! Have a drink and enjoy the view (say "HI" to Winnie for me please)
Then walk down the beach in front of Tiano towards town and stop off at the cute little bar there next to the Fisherman's Meeting House. Continue down about 1/2 mile where you will see the road into town, walk up and to the left - stop again at Jakes and have a drink at the bar there, enjoy the view and make some friends!
Leaving Jakes on the road continue down to Jack Sprats for another beverage and lunch! Then take the beautiful beach route down along the rocks and on Fishermans Bay you will find another bar to quench your thirst, relax and enjoy! Catch a ride with Ted and Flora out to the Pelican Bar. There you can have another nice beverage and swim with the fishies!

Makes for a wonderful day, all that! You will be primed and ready for a nap on the beach in the late afternoon and even catch the sunset just when you are waking from your nap!
HAVE A GREAT TIME and MAKE A BUNCH OF NEW FRIENDS!!! I WISH I WERE THERE :-)

Ah, Lisa, have you been hanging out with our webmaster, Eric? That sounds like his idea of a perfect day in Treasure Beach!

LOL - LittleMamaLisa, you are too funny! I never thought of sending them off while I have my own "adventure"! That "trail" sounds right up my alley! BTW, how safe is Treasure Beach to wander? They may well want to go off and explore by themselves, should I let them? They are all around age 16 or so... and I am usually pretty protective, although they probably have a different word for it! :-)

Oh - You meant the kids! Sorry I was still focused on the bar crawl!

I have never felt safer in a far away place than when I was there in TB! Tell the kids to be careful on the roads cuz they are narrow and cars come from all directions. THEY need to be aware of this so they can get out of the way! I think as long as they are respectful of TB - TB will show the same!

Andy is super cool and will show them a great time! Worth every penny!
Have fun! I am jealous!!!!
RESPECT, Lisa

Something else you might look into is taking a boat excursion with Captain Joseph. You will go about 30 minutes down the coast along with the dolphins and pull up to a secluded beach and hang out all day. Joseph will take care of everything including a kingfish and lobster lunch, beer, rum punch etc., etc. You can swim , hike, explore or just lay back it's totally secluded. This will also give you another view of how beautiful Tresure Beach really is. You can find Joseph at Jake's as well, just ask Duggy at the bar.

Another walk to consider is inland towards the mountains. Go to Golden Sands and turn north on the road by the big tree (no road signs, just landmarks [I love it])and just keep following the road as far as you want (we usually go about 4 miles out). The scenery is great and you will meet many of the farmers and see some of the real people of the area. We have made several friends over the 10 years we have been coming to Treasure Beach and always look them up on our walks. Take a camera and pencil and paper to write down names.

Safety is simply not an issue. Just use common sense. Cars have the right of way so always be alert and ready to step off the road to give way.

Or you can just sit back with a cold one and watch the sea, sky and mountains from a hammock and let the kids do all the other stuff.

Have fun and relax.

These are all such great ideas, I just can't wait to get there! Sounds like we could plan a full day of adventure for both kids and adults with no whining from either! Could it be??
