Hi Littlemamalisa. Just curious, how many times have you been to Jamaica?
If it were as simple and easy as you are hoping, don't you think more people would be doing it?
You are still high from your vacation, and that is great. I know the feeling all too well. But seriously. I think you need to relax and take a few deep breaths.

Just Curious,

Been to Jamaica 6 times. Can't seem to shake it! I understand being high from a vacation but since my first visit several years ago I felt I could belong here. After visiting TB I see that there are many transplanted there who apparently felt the same way and are really enjoying life.

I know life isn't all tea and cookies there - I understand it is not an easy process. I am just exploring the possibility! I'd love to converse more with those who have done it to really get the pros and cons. I am not saying I'd leave tomorrow by any means. Shouldn't we all try and follow a dream or two??????
Question answered???? Do I know you?
Love and Respect, Lisa

Ditto that! There are not enough jobs for the locals and have you ever spent a few months there?

No Littlemamalisa, you don't know me, but I feel as if I know you, as you have written here so much the past few weeks! Not to be in 'competition', I have been to Ja 23 times, and I feel that I still have so much to learn. Six times is not much time. I do understand the power of dreams. But I agree with Been 4 times. Spend a few months. Stand in lines in Kingston all day only to run out of time and experience a huricane or two.
Respect 2u2.

To "Been 4 times" - Not yet but would love to! I plan on doing that just as soon as I can. I realize that I would need to do something that would create jobs for the locals. I have always wanted to open a B&B somewhere? Someday? These plans take time, I might as well start exploring the possibility now, hu?

Littlemamalisa, be aware that Permanent Residency prohibits employment in Jamaica and is designed for people who are either retired or have other sources of income. The process takes about three years and has many restrictions and requirements. If you intend to work on the island you must obtain a work permit.

Ouch!
Littlemamalisa made a request for info, I know Jamaica has its major problems....we as locals have all seen it firsthand.
Lets not be so hasty in discussing the negatives here, what about the positives about Jamaican residency. I have read most if not all of her postings up before her last visit here, she seems genuinely excited about our community and possibly can contribute to its growth.
Keep an open mind.

I would love to live in Treasure Beach. My husband is from TB. We have a small piece of land there. It is not economically feasible for us to live there at this time.

If you are able to do it I am jealous but wish you the best.

All I was trying to say was you need to spend a good amount of time there before you can really make the right move. I have been alot of places that I would love to move to but reality sets in. If you never lived anywhere hurricanes happen alot you could be in for a shock.I'm all for living in paradise and wish you well.

Shai-Mariske, what a fantastic post! Littlemamalisa, do not be discouraged by the naysayers. Not wishing to play the "one upmanship" of many who contribute here regularly, but I have been to Jamaica 39 times now. Having explored most of the island I too would love to settle in TB. It seems like there is a small group in TB who do not wish for "foreigners" to settle there. Not only do they discourage others from doing so on this site, it also occurs otherways. I have been trying to purchase land or an existing house in TB for some time. Real estate agents not returning phone calls/e-mails or playing dumb, property owners/managers playing dumb etc. I attempted to purchase a property that lists itself for rent on this site just last year and never could get any "real" info. Deciding to take the bull by the horns and go straight to TB to check it out and most likely purchase it, when "POOF!". It sold during the first few days I was there or so I was told. Unusual that it had been on the market for sometime and suddenly sells. And surprise, to a Jamaican with connections to both the real estate agent and the property manager. So, follow your dream and be persistent, it will be worth it. Good luck!

One thing I know...
Anything that comes easy in life is NEVER AS REWARDING as something difficult to attain!

Remember - it is all of you who made me feel so welcome and at home in this beautiful bubble of Treasure Beach! I met dozens of business owners, Jamaican, Brits, Americans, Germans all serving the community and enjoying life to the fullest! Making me and all visitors feel welcome, safe, happy! I saw a bit of me in many of you. Artistic, open hearted, POSITIVE, CHARITABLE people! People creating a lasting impression on all they touched. What is wrong with exploring the possibility of being in the same boat?
No doubt that I will probably have to settle for my yearly or twice yearly visits to JA for a while.

Right now, I feel like a relative that may have stayed to long and I apologize. I will see you all again soon!
WITH THE UPMOST LOVE AND RESPECT,
Lisa

Hmm Lisa, that was a test to see how determined you are!

If you want to come live with us and you are at home here; where there is a will there is a way.

The cautions given here are from those who know how challenging it can be. We give and show our best to visitors. Like all cultures we have our little shortcomings and ways. Still a positive and genuine attitude with flexibility and patience will usually neutralise misunderstandings etc.

1 Start/continue saving...anyway. 2 Study Jamaica to have better insight into the culture 3 Figure how doing something you are good at and enjoy could make you a living in Jamaica and esp for the Immigration, how will you be creating employment/production.

Best.

Lisa
Don't let the naysayers discourage you.
turey is right you are being tested and I think that he said it best "where there is a will there is a way"
I too had the same dream as you - to live and work where I feel most comfortable, happy and at peace. I kept coming and finally most recently my dream has come true. I will be soon working and living in Jamaica.
I keep pinching myself cause I can not believe its true - but it is :-)
Keep your dream, keep your faith and trust in jah for he will provide ......

To Mr. Wint, Shai, Just Think, Toronto Jeff, livingmydream, Envious and the "ever positive" Turey!
Thank you very much for your words of encouragement! I appreciate your positive thoughts and impressions. I definitely understand being protective of something we love and enjoy so much so I understand the locals trying to discourage newcomers! I will continue to explore the possibility of permanently moving to JA! It won't be tomorrow, but I will be continuing my research and figuring it out! I am happy knowing that the Universe gives us what we deserve - right now I deserve to enjoy my life here in California and make my plans for the future - which happily includes another trip to TB! Can hardly wait to be there again!
Much Love and Respect to you all! Littlemamalisa :-)

This sounds less than neighborly Cakes. Lisa is thinking of moving to Treasure Beach. She is trying to think of some sort of way to make some money to be able to support herself. More importantly, she is trying to think of how to provide employment to a few others. This sounds wonderful to me. We'd have a new resident who has gone out of her way to be here. We'd have someone who is helping others to make a good living.

To become a citizen, Lisa would have to jump through a lot of hoops. Becoming a citizen is not a fast or easy process, so we know she would be committed.

I would suggest you do not judge before you see what will happen.

Good for you littlemamalisa, I was born and bred in T/Beach, but came to North America a few years ago and still missing T/B.........(and love it so till) most of us Jamaicans left Jamaica for a better life, but work too hard to survive North American life......so what's wrong if you want to leave America and go to Jamaica and live. Didn't we Jamaicans did it? Hold on to your dreams and reach for the rainbow....You go girl!!!!!!!!!
