The fourth annual TBWG Walk-a-thon kicked off in a lively style from Kingfisher Plaza,Calabash Bay,St. Elizabeth. Ted Parchmet provided the participants with upbeat gospel music, inspiring the walkers to break into spirited dancing while waiting for the event to start.

Every year the TBWG members and friends ask for pledges to sponsor them to walk five miles to Rainbow Tree Villa and return.

This year the money donated was twice the amount the group raised in the past! The amount is $78,740. Half the money will go to the Treasure Beach Foundation Scholarship Fund with the remainder ear marked for TBWG outreach programs.

On a humourous note, early in the walk we were joined by a friendly dog. Rebecca Wiersma of Treasure Tours pledged $20 US if the dog completed the walk. He did thereby increasing the caffer's by $1,700 JA.

Traditionally, a prize had been given to person raising the largest amount of money. This year the prize, dinner for two donated by Frenchman's Reef, goes to Jeanne Genus who received $36,940 JA in pledges.

The TBWG thanks all who contributed to the Walk-a-thon making it such a tremendous success. Special thanks go to Ann-Marie(Annie) Allen, Susan Lillywhite, Doubloon Villa, Treasure Tours and The Bureau of Women's Affairs.

To all the members of the TBWG and to all those who walked and to all those who supported the walkers through your generous pledges (and to Ted Parchment -- who always seems to be in his boat or car), THANK YOU ON BEHALF OF TREASURE BEACH FOUNDATION !!

Each and every cent of the money donated to us from this fantastic effort will be used to support the existing scholarship students, as well as to help the next set who will be selected in June 2009.

It is absolutely wonderful to have so many members of the community go the extra mile (actually, 10 miles), to support the TBWG and Treasure Beach Foundation.
