I am very happy to see how many people have shown concern for our ecosysteem and environment in regards to the Great Pond.
I have migrated 20 years and unfortunately whenever I choose to take a vacation it was during a drought and then finally I was home last winter and had the pleasure of watching ducks in the little ponds ( a scenery enjoyed by many of our visitors. It was very dishearten to see people dumping stuffs in some of the ponds at the permission of the land owner. I think this should be illegal and anyone caught doing so should be penalized by the law. Some land owners, I'm told want to dump their ponds for the purpose of land sale with no regards for the poor fellow who might end up buying it only to find himself sinking or floating in the future; and with no care or concern for their neighbors who would otherwise flood out during heavy rain seasons if the ponds weren't there. Some say it's my land and I can do what I want. The ponds provide a catchment for water during heavy rain seasons and spare a lot of homeowners from flooding out. God does everything for a purpose and I believe thats why he made such a beautiful land scape in Treasure Beach. These ponds were created for our protection and the survival of other species
Well said. I agree 150% with your opinion.
I enjoyed watching the lttle duckies swimming in the pond and all the big white birds hanging around every time I sat on the porch while vacationing in Treasure Beach..... Such a beauty of nature
Are the ponds natural or man-made for flood control?
They are as natural as they come.
Ohh! The ponds are God's naturally created beauty and have proven time and time again to be of protection in time of heavy rain.
I enjoyed kicking football back around 1970 or so in the middle of great pond. The pond was dry as can be but solid and the surface so smooth, a thin film of salt. The ball rolled so nice.
Would have been entertaining to see the seaplane land there in 1970. Like something out of a dust bowl movie ...
I also admire and enjoy the farm animals streaming down to the pond to drink water. This is such a rare sight.
