Treasure Beach Forum: TB Runnin's: Community Meetings

Would someone be so kind as to post the names of the various community groups in Treasure Beach which hold public meetings—and when and where these meetings are held. In addition, it would be helpful to know the purposes of these groups, as well as how to get in touch with the President or Chair of each.

If the meetings are not held on a regular basis, how are people in the community notified so they have an opportunity to participate?

I understand the initial seaplane meeting on 2 March, was held by the Treasure Beach Citizens Alert Group. Was the second meeting on this subject, held 12 March, also arranged by the same group? If so, why would there be a meeting of the identical group only 10 days later?

Even though we are “absentee owners,” we are very interested in participating in community organizations, as are others.

All information supplied is appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I see no one has posted one answer to Miss Kennedy here. In a different string there was an interesting post:

"By BW on Monday, March 16, 2009 - 06:17 pm:
I am one of the land owner close to the pond and i can honestly say i did not have any knowleage of this meeting. I saw it right here on TB.net."

Something is wrong when a community as close as Treasure Beach cannot "get its act together" and be sure all people know about meeting in advance and have the opportunity to attend them. I understand not everyone is on a computer, but what about signs being posted? What about telling friends and neighbors? Together we can succeed.

If no one person has the list of organizations and when they meet, maybe people could post the one they know about. Anything would be helpful. Anything at all.

It is my understanding that the Treasure Beach Citizens Alert Group meets at 6pm every second Thursday at Sandy Bank Primary School. Mr. George Dillion (aka Bones) is the founder and president of this group, and they collect monthly dues from members and hold fund raising events. They have held numerous meetings over the years regarding community issues such as the flooding and canal, roads, etc. Their next meeting is scheduled for Thursday March 26 and all members of the community are urged to attend and become active members.

The official name for the citizens group is Greater Treasure Beach Citizens' Alert Benevolent Society (GTB/CABS) so members have taken to calling it just CABS. They are registered as a benevolent society under the Friendly Societies Act of 1966. In the future they will make announcements well in advance on this website regarding topics to be discussed or special guests they will be hosting to encourage more community participation.

Thank you to Try To Help. If someone want to get in touch with Mr. Dillion does he have a phone number or email address which could be shared - with his permission.

Are there any other groups which meet on a regular basis?

One more question. Who called TWO meetings of the Citizens Alert Group ALREADY in March? Can anyone call a special meeting like this? I don't understand how or why these were called and it is clear a lot of peeople did not know they were even happening.

I am curious about the THREE meetings of CABS in one month. Who called them? Can anyone do that or does it have to be Bones?

Thanks to the TB Citizens Alert Group for posting their information here. I appreciate all the help they provide in the community.

My feeling on the three meetings is the seaplane meeting was called on 2 March because it seemed to be an emergency because the seaplane landed on the Pond on Saturday 28 February, two days before that. I can't imagine the seaplane landing itself was not planned. That leads me to believe Mr. Henzell should have alerted the community what was going to happen at the SCHEDULED meeting on 26 February - or maybe before that using this Forum - and not made an emergency meeting.

That 2 March emergency meeting was very confusing. First people said it would be at the Basic School, then the Primary School, then the TBWG. Even the time they said the meeting would be changed. A lot of us have jobs and wanted to be there but it was impossible without us being able to do advance planning. In the future it would be appreciated if we were alerted early enough to be able to change our own plans.

My guess on the 12 March meeting is it was held because the 2 March meeting did not go very smoothly. Mr. Henzell seemed to think all the people would have no objection to the seaplane but that wasn't how it turned out.

The Citizens Alert Group meets one time each month, on the second Thursday of the month. The March 12 meeting was their regularly scheduled meeting. My post above was wrong, their next meeting is not March 26, it is April 9th at 6pm at Sandy Bank Primary School. Sorry for the confusion.
