Congrats on this Kory. I know it was a lot of work and $$ to get the antenna back up and working.

Kudos to you!

O.K. - Now THIS is progress. This will help a lot more people than a sports park or a seaplane or any of that other nonsense. Good for you, man. Well done!

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner ,I Have been very busy, As to the marine radios, I dont see why this shouldnt be public information, so this is how it is,First off there is a yearly licensing fee for the license for the frequency, this is 13,500.00 JA a year, due every february, this was paid by Sunset Resort, for this year 2009. The original equipment was obtained through a grant from food for the poor, the application for the grant was submitted by Breds, who we should thank, as I am sure this was a mountain of paper work. The actual repeater itself, I am told is valued at about 350,000.00 JA, or 4000.00 u.s , this repeater has been repaired 3 times now from getting hit by lightning and power surges, the cost to repair it has been quite expensive each time. This time it cost 53,600.00 JA or 616.00 U.S. This included the labour to replace the two outputs inside the radio, which had to come from miami, travel charges, the parts themselves, 1 deep cycle matinence free marine battery, for back up power, when electricity is gone, a copper grounding rod which is now connected to the antenna and the repeater itself, and a surge protector, 19,000.00 of this was paid by Jason Henzel, from breds, The remaining 34,600.00 was paid out of my pocket. I think if each fisherman were to give me a 1000.00 Ja I should be able to recover some of that. However if anyone wanted to contribute it would be gladly accepted, Overall we are hoping that the surge protector and the proper grounding will enable this equipment to stay up an running,a very long time, however please bear in mind that, the repeater is fairly old now, and equipment wears out, so there is no guarantee. We also are not sure if this reapeater reaches all the way to the Pedro Keys ,we are in the process of testing this out, will keep you posted, It works very good 25 miles out, clear as a bell. This radio station is still under the umbrella of breds but I have volunteered to be the one responsible for the
matinence, and upkeep of it.

Thanks a million Kory, you have gone above and beyond as usual. Thanks also to Breds for their part. Nuff respect due, and I hope the fishermen and others will come forward to help you with the expense. Well done.

Thanks to both Kory and BREDS for all this work.

Kory, I do not see why you should have to pay for this out of your own pocket. It stands to reason each fisherman should contribute JA$2,000 -- part to compensate you for what you've already paid, and the remainder to have in a reserve fund so you do not have to beg each time you need more money. In addition, perhaps they could each contribute JA$1,000 each quarter; again, unspent money would be banked in a special fund for which you'd take responsibility. The fisherman trust you and know you are there to assist them.

Could you have a meeting to explain and arrange something such as this? (I am merely suggesting the amounts -- which could be totally wrong. You know better what it would take to maintain the repeater. Plus, as a businessperson, you know how much would be smart to be kept in reserves, should something else happen to the repeater -- which we all know will happen.)

I think this is a very good Idea.I now the fishermen would agree with this it`s for their own good.
