Got to be good news for the South Coast. It would be good if Black River could rebound as a shipping port again.Tourism and other local intersts could find it useful.

Bus tours from Black River to Treasure Beach,Southfield, Malvern and Holland Bamboo could be some of the good areas of attraction to treat the tourists to a slice of the area.

Will never forget my fisrt time on a cruise ship right there in Black River in the 1980's. It it was called Caribbean Prince.

I hope more people who are interested in an easy going way of life and an appreciation of natural beauty can be packaged to cruise and spot some of the best of St. Best while giving a boost to the local economy.

When I hear about things like this, I feel wary. Here in Brooklyn, our Mayor arranged to have a cruiseport built in the riverfront neighborhood of Red Hook, a neighborhood that has been largely ignored by the rest of the city until very recently. When he argued in favor of the cruiseport, the Mayor talked about how great it would be for the small businesses in Red Hook. Instead what we've seen is that the cruise lines have brought in shuttle buses to take their passengers from the port to a subway stop in a 'nice' neighborhood -- completely ignoring Red Hook. Red Hook has the added traffic of buses and taxis, and residents have lost part of the waterfront, but the community isn't seeing any new revenue.

I hope that the people in Black River are able to make a more mutually beneficial arrangement with this cruise company.
