I strongly agree with fed up. I grew up in Sandy Bank and we have always, always, have water problems from I was a kid until now. Isn't there someone who can do something about his problem without it being political? How about a resevoir in the area? Just an idea/suggestion.

Water and road has alway been tied to politic its
the most promising reward that politican used to get voters to support them , i remember one former politican a few years ago make such a promise ,that water would be over hills and vallies, loans were granted but little was done ,before Jamaica was dub as land of sea and sun ,it used to be land of wood and water.

I called and spoke to the NWC today...to both the call center in Portmore and finally to the office in Black River. I was told that the truth is that the water supply and infrastructure is inadequate and incapable of servicing the ever expanding development in the area of South St. Elizabeth. In addition there are problems with the pumps and one of the wells. I suspect we are going to be waiting a very long time for a reliable and consistent water supply. Realistically there is no immediate solution in sight.

I wish I had a dollar for every time I've called the NWC in the last 6 months.

It's always amusing to hear them tell me there is water on the line - when not a drop can be found.

There is a simple solution for this.Mr Moxam works for the paper not sure which one let him get a story out.Find out the problem with the water system and start get funding for it.We do have family in the States,Canada etc that will posible help or can push the politicians to do more. This is rediculous for the year 2009 enough is enough.

when i was a boy in treasure beach in the early 50'S they had a two inch pipe carrying water to treasure beach, back then everybody used to go to
stand pipe for water, then people started to get pipe run into their yard, later on in the late 50's or early 60's they replaced some of that pipe with 6 or 8 inch black pipe all the way from honslow down to miss emblin house, if that is
what is still supplying you all with water you are definately going to have a serious problen,
from the increase volume of use, and also limestone deposits in the pipe itself, which will choke off the pipe over the years, and that's like 50 years ago, good luck you all

"Water",
Just to point out that "Mr. Moxam" no longer works for any of the Jamaican papers, but he still works elsewhere in the local media.

I believe you are greatly under-estimating the magnitude of the problem, however, if you think a story from any journalist is going to lead to action. It will take far more than that.

As for relying on relatives abroad to provide money to fund an improvement project, I wouldn't hold my breath! These infrastructure works, no matter how simple they might seem, take millions of dollars to implement, and many of these relatives of whom you speak are probably in danger of losing their jobs!

Does the water for swimming pools take away from the residents?

If you look you will see the villas and hotels are having to BUY water by the truckload. They would have to do this even if they did not have pools because people renting want to be able to bathe and brush their teeth and the dishes and laundry have to be washed.

This lack of water has been going on in Treasure Beach for years and years. It is very wrong and unhealthy.

Don't ask Mr. Moxam to help. Ask the MP we elected, Mr. Tufton.

Mr. Moxam is a journalist not an elected member of parliament.

We had the water minister as MP for many years. Too bad we didn't get it done then but we should still hold every elected person accountable.

Years ago when there was no water the NWC trucks would fill barrels left by the side of the road by residents. Why do we hardly see NWC trucks in Treasure Beach, and why are they handing water out to some but not to others? Is it only for NWC friends? Is it only for friends of politicians?

Water is more important than food for survival. We need water to drink and to bathe. We need water for the babies and the elderly.

I am hearing some of the NWC trucks seen in Treasure Beach are SELLING what they carry and the drivers are puting the money in their own pockets. I hope this is a rumour but if this is true it is against the law.

Sandy Bank is not the only area without water. The shortage is from Calabash bay to Billys bay.

And then there are the leaks in the pipes on the road. I could have water for weeks with just that. The NWC is not on the ball - I have notified them of the leaks but they are still there, weeks later. Tourists to TB should be aware of what a lot of the people here have to go through - again today - no water in TB!
