Treasure Beach Foundation finally has its own Web site.

As someone who cares about Treasure Beach, we invite you to visit our site—and take time to look through all the pages. We also encourage you to bookmark it so you can return for news on the things we’re doing for the Treasure Beach community.

If you are not on our mailing list, please contact us so you’ll automatically get news of happenings and events (including our annual villa raffle).

And, if you think others would be interested in assisting our scholarship students or participating in our upcoming villa raffle, please pass the word on to them.

We hope you enjoy www.TreasureBeachFoundation.org.

Please tell us what you think after you’ve had an opportunity to visit the site.

The professionalism and careful thought behind this site is an honest reflection of the skills, hard work and dedication of Karen Kennedy and all those involved with Treasure Beach Foundation.

It's wonderful to see how much care there is for the community of Treasure Beach, whether from those who live there or those who have the great pleasure to visit when we can.

This is certainly a charity worth supporting. Long may its good works continue and flourish!

Great job Karen and your team!! I am proud to be a native/product of TBeach. Although I didn't benefit from your foundation, I am even moreso inspired to fly the flags of TBeach and Jamaica high i.e. in a positive way - our present children have a lot to give thanks for. I am pretty sure they will be motivated even more to perform.
Congrats to our teachers as well, especially Sandy Bank Basic and Primary, which is the foundation for most of us from TBeach - Good Work Teachers!!
To our parents - keep believing in your children, don't give up on them - supporting them all the way (even when they fail)- they will make you all proud!! Even if they don't benefit from the Foundation, they can still make it - just keep on supporting all the way.
Way to Go!!

This is wonderful. I was not clear what the group who ran the annual villa raffle did, at least not in this detail. May I know when the next raffle is scheduled?

Truly inspiring! Look at all the happy faces of the scholarship winners. I am also quite impressed with the list of people on the Board of Advisors.

Best of luck to all those students who are competing for next year's scholarships.

I would like to help in some way though my finances are not the best. Are donations necessary to help the students now or are their expenses handled through the end of the school year.

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of page Link to this message  By Karen Kennedy on Monday, February 09, 2009 - 02:27 pm: Edit Post

Thanks to all of you for your kind compliments on our site. And, a special thanks to Joe Natoli (a member of our Board of Advisors) for handling the site design and programming work.

In response to the questions ...

* The villa raffle will be held this spring. To be certain you receive notice of it, please go to the "Contact Us" page on our site, and send us your name, e-mail address, and snail (postal) mail address.

* We are well aware the economy is down, and people's finances are not the best. We have, nonetheless, made a commitment to pay the expenses for our scholarship students. We also want to award scholarships to additional deserving students. Plus, we want to continue to support our current scholarship students next year, so long as they meet their requirements for the current school year. All this is a preface to saying, "Yes, we need your donations -- all year long." If you can afford only a small amount, that will still help us. It all adds up. We are grateful for donations of any size.

This is really something special. I will be visiting Treasure Beach for the first time in April and a community effort like this makes me feel like I made the right vacation choice. 61 days and counting ...

Roberta, this is only one of the many reasons visitors are attracted to Treasure Beach. The residents are the kind of people you will love, make frinds with and WANT to assist. The people who run Treasure Beach Foundation are not from Treasure Beach but they have been going there for more than 20 years. I feel confident you will be glad you chose Treasure Beach over anywhere else in Jamaica. I am.

Robert is correct. It takes awhile to go through the site but the information is excellent. I am also glad the students from the University of Virginia will be coming to Treasure Beach next month to help out in the schools. That was on the News page.

Had an opportunity to view the website and its really informative. Great job!

Long before there was a Treasure Beach Foundation and means to promote the foundation, Karen and Peter Kennedy having been giving and supporting the Children in Treasure Beach. I know this, cause i was one of the first recipient some 20 Years ago. I want to encourage anyone who desires to be apart of the Treasure Beach's future to get behind this foundation with your financial and marketing support. We stand at a crossroad in history and we have a moral obligation and responsisbility to our future generation to help point them towards a succesful future.

For many of us, our dreams will be realized in these children that we help to support today. They will be our future doctors, lawyers, teachers and leaders of our country and we must make a commitment to be the wings beneath their wings. Karen and Peter has sacrificed for many years to make education not just a dream but an affordable reality for children in Treasure beach. So i call upon every Resident and former residents of Treasure Beach from every corner of this globe and visitors who are so in love with Treasure Beach and it's people to get behind the Treasure Beach Foundation and pledge your support.

Our children are counting on us and we have a responsibility to bear the burden of their future.
I want to thank Karen and all the partners who have supported her over the years in making these scholarships and fundings available to our children. They were not from Treasure Beach but they saw in its people, hardwork, willingness, humility and warmth and hospitality like none other, and friends thats what makes us proud to call treasure beach home and even prouder to be associated with a people so united and in the midst of all crisis show themselves to be their brothers keeper.

Treasure Beach and it's future embedded in it's children's education needs us once again to rise up and be united in a most worthy cause and help this foundation. Almost, for our children will not be good enough, They are so close to their dreams, and mother is counting on you, and a child is waiting on your help to have a fighting chance at a good education to secure a place in what will be a very difficult road ahead and we as a caring people cannot afford to let them down. You may think what you have to offer is not enough to help but believe when it's coupled with the countless many that will give just like you we will move this mountain of uncertainty from before the future of Treasure Beach's children.

We need your help now. Thanks for taking the time to hear us and this is your organization and your time in history to answer the call to act and impact the destiny of Traesure Beach's children.
Thanks for your faithfulness and be proud to be a Treasure Beachian whether by birth or by association, We are the Greatest most loving family there is. Answer this call to help today and friends we need it no more than ever.

Rohan James
Treasure Beachian and proud sponsor of this organization.

I recently started going to this site because I am saving up for a trip to Treasure Beach.

Interesting we have almost the same name. Mine has no spaces. I know others with this name. All near Mobile where I live.

Happy you like the foundation website too.

Wish I could be down there when the University of Virginia students will be in Treasure Beach. That is a wonderful thing they are doing.

Rohan James, I do not know you. That does not matter because what you wrote is the most touching and eloquent thing I may even have read on these pages. I can tell what you wrote was directly from your heart, and I can tell how much what Karen and Peter Kennedy have done over the years has meant to you and so many others in Treasure Beach.

I applaud you for being willing to share your feelings for all to see. I applaud you for telling things in a clear and honest way.

I applaud you for coming out and telling people, whether or not they are visitors to Treasure Beach or live in Treasure Beach exactly how important it is to support Treasure Beach Foundation, even if all they can do is to contribute a small amount.

Our family’s finances are not the best, especially now, but I actually feel selfish by not having sent in even a small amount of money. If you can share your heart in such an open way, I think it would be wrong of me not to share a small amount with others who need it even more than we do. We all have an obligation to try to help take care of each other.

Thank you for opening my eyes.

On behalf of the Sandy Bank Primary School family, I take pleasure in congratulating the Treasure Beach Foundation on this wonderful accomplishment. Your thoughtfulness, innovativeness and concern for humanity have once again been proven. Everyone will now be able to keep abreast of all that's happening in this foundation via this website.

The Sandy Bank Primary School students are truly blessed to be beneficiaries of this foundation. At present, thirteen students are fortunate to be assisted with their high school education. With such economic constraints today, the scholarships received have been of great help to the parents or wards of these students. It has also been a driving force for these students to work hard to maintain high grades in school. We extend sincere gratitude to you and all who have made donations in aid of our school. We wish you continued success as you spread your wings to higher heights for the cause of our children- the future generation.

Thanks to all those who have made such kind comments about our Web site. More importantly, thanks to all those who have made such wonderful statements about the work we do for the residents of Treasure Beach.

I met Rohan James when he was a student at Sandy Bank Primary. He is now 31, married, and has three sons -- and has an exceedingly responsible job. Rohan comes from a family in which education was exceedingly important. He and his siblings didn't miss a day, no matter what a financial strain it was on his family -- and it was more of a hardship than most people could imagine.

Though I have not seen Rohan in years, it is almost impossible for me to explain how very proud of him I am. He is now a man who is passing on the legacy of education to his own children. He fully understands the difference between merely limping along and being able to achieve ones potential is education and the understanding that people truly believe in your ability to achieve. He, as all parents do, wants the best for his children. Because of his own education and the fact he subsequently got a good job, he is able to send his own children to school. Others are not so fortunate.

And those are the families about whch Rohan is concerned.

There are far too many families in Treasure Beach who cannot afford to send their children to school, no matter how important they know it is. After all, if a parent's choice is feeding the whole family or sending a promising child to school, the decision become obvious -- no matter how unfortunate.

I am now in Treasure Beach -- and shall be here for the next several weeks.

One wonderful outcome of what Rohan wrote is that two residents of Treasure Beach have already come by to see me, each bringing their personal financial donation to the scholarship fund. Though the worldwide economic crisis has hit Treasure Beach as hard as it has hit London and Washington, the residents themselves are going out of their way to contribute what they can.

I am not in the habit of begging. However, the students still need their education, no matter what the economy is doing.

If you donated $100 last year and cannot afford that much, donate $50. If you gave $25 a month and can't afford to donate that much, think about $15 a month. (The "Donate Now" form on our Web site easily enables an automatic donation once a month -- or once a quarter, based upon your wishes.)

Whatever you can do, I implore you to do it. Do it before you push it to the back of your mind. The children deserve no less.

I feel proud to be a part of this caring organization. The children really do need our help. I have been fortunate enough to meet with the parents/students on a regular basis and have no doubt of the appreciation felt for the work the foundation is doing.

Thanks, TBWG!!

We are delighted to have been selected by the Treasure Beach Women's Group to be one of the recipients of the money they raise on their March 8th Walkathon.

On behalf of the many students who are currently on scholarship -- and those who will be selected this June to receive scholarships for the the term starting this fall, we thank you for your kindness and generosity.

My stepson Shandapaul ( also called Buju ) is a current recipient of one of the half-scholarships offered by the Treasure Beach Foundation. He worked very hard to acheive this honor and knows that he must maintain the high standards set by the Foundation in order to continue to receive this scholarship. This is a goal which he and his mother and I are committed to. Of course we would be committed to his excelling at school without the scholarship but the scholarship offers extra incentive to us all for him to do well. In these trying times having to pay fewer school bills is a blessing I surely appreciate. Thank you, Karen Kennedy and all the other sponsors of this wonderful program. I urge everybody reading this to log onto this beatifully crafted website and to donate as much as they can to this terrific cause.

This is a group that puts its money where its mouth is. They say they will give scholarships and they do. They say they will have college students come to mentor and they do. They say they will encourage books to be brought to the schools and they do. They said they would help when hurricanes hit and they did. I can ask for nothing more.

I am proud to support them.

I am glad they have a new website though I would still support them if they did not.
