The Caretaker, who last year made their collection of Taino and Jamaican objects available for a museum type setting in Treasure Beach, is encouraging comments here to gauge the level of interest for such a facility.

As I cannot post on TBNet from my computer, any answers to questions may take a while.

Please email me at tainocacique2004@yahoo.com
for more details.

It's a fantastic idea!

Will it be open by March 09'? I'd definitely visit!

Thanks for your encouragement. Enthusiasm and encouragement are the first ingredients that are needed. A core collection is in place, in safekeeping awaiting the proper preparations and awaiting a new Caretaker/s to step up.

I don't think it will be open by March '09 Littlemammalisa.

I will keep this forum informed of how this dream unfolds.

A good idea may be to also combine it with artifacts and history about the Old Wharf. I have found many items both in the sea and on land that would be of interest. There is not much history about the Old Wharf but I have found the location where it collapsed into the sea. I would be more than happy to donate these items.

Thanks Ms Todd. Old Wharf must have been a stop off point from Black River for the coastal sailing boat traders. Did Parotee have a wharf?

Any history or old stories about Old Wharf anyone?

Ownership, cataloguing, appropriate storage and display of items are some of the considerations for such a project.

It would be good if down the line scholarships could be arranged for museum studies, archaeology etc. Ja has more history than any one museum could handle. Think of St Elizabeth alone.

A display related to our local history, Old Wharf and other areas, would be shown by the objects left behind. Maybe an audio visual collection of local stories and characters. TBNet has collected lots already.

I have heard about the old wharf but no real details. Can anyone tell me more. What was it? What happened to it? Where exactly was it located? I like the idea of a museum, history fascinates me.
