Actually, this was my parents view for years. I remember all the other kids at the private Christian school I attended swapping stories of Halloween fun the next day when I would just have to sit there. If anyone asked me I would have to tell them my parents wouldn't allow us to go trick or treating. Then my parents softened up and had a Halloween party for just us kids (their children) with bobbing for apples, playing games and making carmel apples, but still no trick or treating.

Then one year one of my classmates had a Halloween party. The twist was her dad was a Deacon in the church. I was finally allowed to go to the party and I got to go trick or treating that year. Of course, we lived so far out in the country, going trick or treating for a mile stretch meant four houses!

I certainly can appreciate your point of view, A Shame, as I grew up with this belief in my home. My parents also did not have us believing in Santa Claus, and the first Easter Egg hunt I ever attended was at Sunset Resort here in TB.

Which way is right or wrong? I have no idea, I guess it is up to the individual and I will respect each person for their beliefs whether I agree with them or not.

But I will say, the smiles and laughs happening at my gate on Friday night was worth the money I spent on the candy 10 times over.

Halloween has its origins in the ancient Celtic festival known as Samhain (Irish pronunciation: [ˈsˠaunʲ]; from the Old Irish samain).[1] The festival of Samhain is a celebration of the end of the harvest season in Gaelic culture, and is sometimes[2] regarded as the "Celtic New Year."[3] Traditionally, the festival was a time used by the ancient Celtic pagans to take stock of supplies and slaughter livestock for winter stores. The ancient Gaels believed that on October 31, now known as Halloween, the boundary between the living and the deceased dissolved, and the dead become dangerous for the living by causing problems such as sickness or damaged crops. The festivals would frequently involve bonfires, into which bones of slaughtered livestock were thrown. Costumes and masks were also worn at the festivals in an attempt to mimic the evil spirits or placate them.

Life is too short, let us enjoy ourselves at it passes by.If Halloween is of the devil, I think carnival at is of the devil too. We have seen so many different devil costume and naked people and no one say anything about that.People enjoy unno self and serve God because judgement is near at hand. Luv unno.

Halloween is just a time of year when kids dress in costumes, go to different houses, get candy and have fun with their friends. Its just like Carnival or Mardi Gras, its no different..... only some of the costumes and its not satanic people only say that because some kids dress scary and Im sure a french maid or a nurse in a short dress isnt satanic its just things they see on t.v.

People ,please lighten up.What's satanic about Halloween? This celebration is really for the kids and older folks who are still kids at heart.Jamaica is a free country, and if you feel that it is not right to participate, then don't . Let those who want to take part, take part and have their fun.The world is changing and so are we.
Like Ninja said, if Halloween is satanic, then Carnival is satanic too.The carved pumpkin (Jack-o-lantern)is really beautiful , not to mention the trick or treaters in their costumes.Hope more people will participate next year.

That's why all the crime's that we used to here about in the US, it's going on in Jamaica today, becaused we followed every thing people do in the US. a lot of these mask used to commite crimes. We used to only here about kidnapping in the US and now our childerns cant go to school and feel safe, becaused of people driving by schools and kidnapping children. This is one more way for people to hide behind these mask and commite crime against our children. Our childrens have been doing with out Halloween all this time, why bring more problems in the community, It's not all about the satanic,It's about there safety.

If there is a Satan walking this Earth, I have not come across it, neither have I had any reports of it's existence.

Christman, Easter and Halloween are relics of old celebrations that have been for the most part commercialized yet still have real meaning for some.

I experience temptation and ignorance in my own self. I do not place the blame on any external beings or forces for this. I have been given free will and the choice to bow to temptation or remain in ignorance.

The masks that are the most dangerous are those worn in order to conceal evil intentions. These are not made of rubber but usually of sweet words and beguiling smiles.

The process of discarding these false faces involve a visit to the altar of True Self. There, with courage and persistance, we begin to regain our wholeness (holiness).

What duppy or demon can touch that which is only within reach of our inner sight?

A shame, Not everything that happens in the US happens in Jamaica and Im sure you would never want some of the things that happen there happening here and besides no one uses mask to commit crimes anymore neither do they kidnap they just kill, because as Candy Girl said "the world has change" and it has changed indeed, these physicopaths now-a-days just dont care about who sees them do there evil. Its just a time for fun, hanging with friend and collecting candy and maybe if you drop the negativity you will see the brighter side of things and maybe life. So if you want to keep your children safe for God sake keep them inside and I dont think they will appreciate that very much.

I will not agree/disagree with anyone's opinion.I just ask that everyone be careful.A lot of people are kind and enjoy seeing the kids enjoy themselves. On the other hand the evil ones are out there just waiting for the oppertunity to act.Good and bad things happen at holloween. For instance a twelve year was shot and killed walking to the door of some convicted felon, who claims he thought he was gonna be robbed. What he did, pump twenty six shots from the inside of his home killing that poor little child. Then again a lot of kids had to depart with their candy as most were found to have Meth.cocain, glass bottles and other awful things.Nothing wrong with enjoying halloween. But as parents please, please examine candies and never let your cildren go out trick or treating alone. Please supervise them.

Halloween goes back maybe 5,000 years. It is an ancient Celtic celebration of the change of season (a major event in temperate climates where the first frost marks the end of the plant growth season for the year and the need for serious preparations for the cold season). Indeed it is the Celtic New Year. It was celelbrated as described in a post above and has nothing to do do with the "devil."

The Celts originated in central Europe - near the former Checkoslovakia. They migrated to the west and their culture is the underpinning of life in Scotland among other places (a major contributor to Jamaican culture).

The Celts ruled Europe for hundreds if not thousands of years and established most of the major cities in Europe including Berlin and Paris.

Halloween is a time for fun and creativity. It is a holiday loved by children wherever it is celebrated.

The "devil" some of you are referring to exists in your own consciousness, so get over it and let the young people, especially, have some fun.

Of course there is going to be a problem here and there regarding any holiday. Just look at the drunken brawls that happen during "Independence Day" in just about every country. Don't blame these problems on the holiday.

You can find the good, the bad and the ugly on any place on any date.
